They kept the same game play as in Indigo Prophecy and expanded on it.

I love what they are showing so far.

Great info, thanks!

Yet with little more than a promise of "themes never used in games before," I find myself as excited for the game as I have been for any in recent memory, and the majority of that comes from the similarities to Indigo Prophecy. That game wasn't without its faults, but conceptually, it was incredibly refreshing, and it's rare to see a game that experimental with a significant budget behind it, which added up to one of the most memorable games I've ever played. And now to see that approach evolve, with some of the best graphics in the industry, makes Heavy Rain hard not to like.

I'm not sure if my excitement comes from Quantic Dream's talent, or because they are the only ones attempting games of this sort, but there's something important worth paying attention to here
.

My descriptions can't properly convey how atmospheric and emotional Heavy Rain (Origami Killer) was. This is a game you need to experience yourself. Sure, at its roots, it's just an adventure game, but its execution is brilliant so far. Cage ended the demonstration by noting that there will be around sixty scenes like that to play through and no matter what happened, there would never be a game over. Even having a character die, the story would continue on and be influenced by your actions.

Heavy Rain will be exclusive to the PS3 and I can't wait to play it from start to finish. The designers of Quantic Dream might have an emotional masterpiece on their hands.

"What is interesting in this interface is the fact that you are not stuck when you want to talk," says Cage. "In most games, when you want to talk, you enter a cut-scene with fixed cameras, and there's nothing you can do. But here we can move and talk and interact at the same time, like in real life."

I hope that the control system is more that just quick time events. The video I saw seemed to be almost entirely QTEs.

It's not, but because they don't use a behind-the-player perspective during the earlier section, you don't think of it as gameplay.

Look up videos of Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy to get a basic idea of how the game may be structured.

So if you don't use the analog stick to control movement and it says you press R2 to move does that mean this thing is on rails? How do you get the character to go where you want?

It's probably just like Shenmue which used a trigger to walk/run and the left stick to aim your direction.

I have been interested in this game since I first heard of it back in 2006, and was blown away by The Casting trailer at E3 06. I started to think it was being scrapped after not hearing anything new in awhile. I am glad to hear that it is still in the works and I am more excited then ever about it now. Ah anticipation. I hope this one doesn't dissappoint.

Cage also confirmed that a demo would be made available to PS3 owners before launch, likely to be set in a separate scenario to the main storyline.

The only fear I have, and I took that from the explanations concerning the gameplay, is that the game sounds like a modern version of Dragon's Lair.

Basically, you push a button that makes the hero continue on their way (without controlling their actual directions / actions, but you can look around), and at key moment, you are given the choice between action 1, 2 and 3 (like seen in the fighting action sequence).

That wouldn't necessarily be a deterrent for me, as it just represents a different way to tell a story, but it would give a whole other meaning to the term "cut scene", the whole game being one giant cutscene that you can pause or let go forward with some key decisions.

If it happens to be true, I am still interested, but I can see a whole lot of heated discussions from both fans and journalits about wether Heavy Rain is or isn't a "game".

You have direct control over the character, don't know where people are getting this Dragon's Lair impression from.

Cage explained that the first innovation we would see was the way one makes Madison move: with a trigger. Pulling a trigger would cause Madison to walk forward, regardless of her orientation. That way, the constantly shifting camera wouldn't disorient the player when they try to move around with a stick. Rather, the stick is used for rotating Madison's head. She'll walk in the direction she's looking, so movement is done in this manner.

Much like Shenmue really, except that didn't have changing camera angles so the trigger walk-run wasn't all that necessary, just gave you a unique feeling of control over Ryo.

Read the rest of IGN's preview for details on environment interaction, speaking and thinking.

Tons of previews up everywhere.

In regards to the story, the best way to describe is as Cage said... The game's story is like a rubber band. You can alter it in any way you want, but it will always be a rubber band.

Tons of attention to detail. One preview talked about how if you trip on the stairs in the frantic part of the demo and got a bruise, that bruise will stay with you throughout a portion of the game.

The whole concept of this game is that your actions will have serious results that will be seen throughout the entire game.

I read in one place that even if your character dies, it will not be game over. I don't know if the girl we saw in the demo is the main character, or it will be similar to Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit with multiple characters.

The demo shown was not taken from the actual game , it was a separate act created just to demo the game and its core mechanics.

A demo for PSN has been confirmed. We will most likely get the same demo that was shown the past few days at Leipzeg. That means we could expect it as early as next week.

This game has great potential for DLC. They can essentially continue to create new storylines in an episodic fashion, similar to what Siren has been doing. They could have a weekly release with one new episode worth about an hour of gameplay, or a whole story every month or two.

The core gameplay mechanics are what makes this game spectacular. It's going in just the direction I thought and hoped it would.

Cant. Wait.
