As a fan of Roland Emmerich blockbuster disaster schlockfests, 2012 was right up there with Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow -- along with Emmerich's non-disaster films, Stargate and 10,000 BC (as far as I'm concerned, Godzilla was a total bomb). If you liked any of those Emmerich movies then you will love 2012.

The huge standout in 2012 was the quality and quantity of special effects. The 10.5 California earthquake sequences were stunning. This is a great popcorn film - just sit back and enjoy the ride. I sure did!
Thanks for the review. I'm eager to watch it. Debating whether to redbox it first though. I did like Day After Tomorrow. I've actually watched it and Independence Day multiple times. Stargate is a classic. I've even watched Godzilla a lot even though not the greatest film. I like Emmerich's films in general.

I apologize that I didn't search first and thank you for answering my question.Anyways, I'll be buying the 3-disc edition from Amazon because I have a $10 Amazon gift card. So that means it'll only cost me $14.**

Another review from Hidefdigest also claims 2012's AQ is reference quality. Really looking forward to this.

hello all,

got a delima, i have this film on a hard drive. but no hd surround sound. my wife thinks the downloads (mkv) look better than the disc. we did an a/b comparison with die hard 4. they both looked the same to me, but i need the hd surround sound not the video. is it worth the $20 for the disc or just watch it on the hard drive

I'm only renting this and looking forward to watching and hearing it but I'm in no hurry to tell the truth. I may not even get to it as there are some upcoming goodies in March!

This is another Terminator Salvation, US gets 2 discer and UK gets 1.
US version has 2 music videos and a Countdown feature which the UK does not get. Anyone know what Countdown is?

Except he noted that bass heads will be a bit let down since the LFE channel is not up to par with what one would expect of a film like this Many reviews/opinions have noted this now unfortunately. This should have been a reference LFE film

My interest in this movie was sky high then BAM, it had to happen. Fu**ing John Cusack! As soon as I saw him in the trailer, I literally said out loud to my friend "Goddamn it, fu**ing John Cusack! That just ruined this whole movie for me!"

John Cusack is one of the most overrated actors of all-time. He's always the same persona in every movie he's in. He just sucks -- tries to display emotions, like stark terror, and comes off looking silly. Why would they even bother putting him in this film? There are several good movies that have been released within the past year. Not surprisingly, John Cusack is in NONE of them!

This made 600 million plus worldwide. Someone had to like it. I'm going to have to make my own opinion when I redbox it.

Thanks for contributing nothing to the conversation.

C'mon. It's okay to dislike a movie, but offer some reasons. Not just drop the usual thread crap and walk away.

Overrated? "Say Anything", "Con Air", "Better Off Dead"... I dig Cusack! Granted, if you were expecting Will Smith, Bruce Willis and others who are more prominent in action films, I can understand.

You need to backup your argument? Are you a fan of Roland Emmerich films and did you enjoy his previous films? Personally, when I watch a Roland Emmerich film, I expect great visual effects but not so heavy on character driven plots. He's not James Cameron and the thing is, he's taking on a disaster film.

Emmerich disaster films may seem like cinematic drivel to those expecting something so serious but when it comes to "2012", you want to see disaster and chaos. I did not want to see a love story during armageddon. So, I felt the CG/blue-screen and everything employed technically was quite appropriate for this type of film.

As for the Blu-ray, I enjoyed it immensely. The lossless audio was just phenomenal. I agree with the Blu-ray.com reviewer. A good number of special features included on the two-disc version as well.

If someone likes it or dislikes it, it just an opinion. I find the title of this movie very interesting because its just a couple years away. You may never know, the world may end in 2012. What would you do before the world ends?

That's why we should watch this movie and start planning ahead before the time comes.
