Just a heads up for those looking for a PS3. If you have a BJs Warehouse membership, you should check there. I stopped in my local store today and they had just gotten 6 in. I know these are still scarce right now, so if you're a member, you may find one there.

They're $294.99. They also offer up a 2 year extended warranty for only $19.99, which is a terrific deal.

FYI for those searching...

I noticed bestbuy.com had the 120GB in stock this morning.

I wish they would re-add SACD playback to newer models. I bet it could be done just with Firmware alone. PS3 has all the needed hardware I'm certain.

I still have a 60GB and I do own a SACD. I wish they would bring that feature back in case I ever have to replace my PS3 with a different model. I'm almost sure it wouldn't be difficult (like PS2 emulation could be)...

It's a feature that wasn't really used overall by ps3 owners. That's why it was scrapped from the newer models (but I'm sure you knew that).

You would be wrong on that point. SACD could not be returned via firmware, because the newer models dropped the specific SACD authenticator circuit needed in all SACD players. That is the real reason Sony dropped playback of SACD, because it truly was part of the cost-cutting plan to lower the model's cost.

There are plenty of solid SACD players now, and Sony has even released a few Blu-ray players that also play SACD.

I appears that frys got them in (they have two different versions of the 120GB slim) but they are not available online. It's a huge ymmv.

More accurately would be "It does" (almost) "everything" (the previous SKU could).

Just picked up one today they had two at super target. I got 1, this is the second for the house. I put my launch 60 gig in my sons room and am using this in the family room. The 60 gb was alittle hot and loud so I hope the slim is a big improvement.

Can anyone tell me how the profiles work I have a psn on the original that I use for my madden franchise here on this site. Is it just a matter of logging in on the new PS3 with that login info?

i just bought my 7 1/2 year old son hos own ps3 for passing 1st grade

last 2101 model @ gamestop.

now he has the ps3 to go along with his 360 & wii in his room
plus he has a 42" plasma & directv hd-dvr box in there........damn i spoil him too much lol

I just got home from the Gamestop in NYC @33st and Broadway/Herald Sq with a 2101A. I traded in my 160GB Uncharted bundle with 27 games and Sony brand blu-ray remote because they have a promotion where they give 30% trade in bonus for games and $25 trade in bonus for consoles. I also signed up for the edge card which game me a extra 10% trade in bonus for the games and it all totaled up to $527.40 and then they took out $14.99 for the Edge card membership and dropped it to $512.41. I used the credit and bought a 120GB slim (CECH-2101A) and a black Nintnedo wii (with the wii sports/wii sports resort and the wii motion plus) and it totaled out to $499.98 no tax charged (edge card members supposedly don't pay tax).

While I'm not a fan of them, (I call them scamstop), this was a wild deal that no one should pass up.

In closing, the CECH-2101A has made it's way to the NYC area. YMMV (for now if you can't make it to the GS I mentioned or they sold out of them).

The 2101 model definitely feels cooler than the previous Slim. And it does sound a tad bit quieter to my ears.
