Not a fan of the Bourne Trilogy then I take it, lol.

My vote is for GZ....although I haven't seen Wolfman yet.

Default The Ghost Writer or Kick-Ass

Help me out guys I want to blind buy one of these films which one is a must see right now? I love the actors and the story of The Ghost Writer but I have heard so much praise for Kick-Ass. If it helps I am also a fan of Nic Cage. So guys which one to get now vs later? Thanks

Obviously credibility should only go to one who has seen both films. Kick-Ass, however, was a film I blind bought today and loved it. Nic Cage is fantastic in it and it's really enjoyable.

Yeah I am really interested in it but at the same time I have heard that The Ghost Writer is one of the best films of the year. Its too bad that it was overshadowed by Shutter Island, but thats Scorsese for you.

I enjoyed Ghost Writer immensely, but this is no contest. Kick-Ass is one of the most entertaining movie to have come out in ages. The PQ and AQ aren't too shabby either.

That's a tough call without knowing more about you and your film tastes. I've seen both now and really liked them. I think The Ghost Writer would benefit from replay value more for me but for first-time viewing Kick Ass is pretty great. If you can watch superhero/action movies over and over I'd get Kick Ass.

I'd choose The Ghost Writer myself but I'm a fan of Polanski movies that have that Hitchcock kind of vibe. Most people will probably prefer Kick Ass though.

That's a really tough call. Why not rent both of them and see which one you prefer more?

Me too, I love a good thriller (Psycho is a big favorite) and my small collection needs more of those types of films. I like watching Pierce and Ewan (even though she is old enough to be my mom Kim Cattrall is nice to look at too Hell I might just buy both of them tomorrow and not buy anything next week.

Unless I want to watch the blurry dvd version renting is a no-go for me. Last year my Blockbusters closed down, now Hollywood Video, and my local Redbox has not gone Blu yet. I also don't have netflix. I'm not really into renting

I went with Kick-Ass because I got it for free and it came with an extra DVD copy. I probably would have preferred picking up The Ghost Writer, as I do believe it to be the better film. But it came as a flipper, rather than with a separate DVD, and cost a little bit more.

Polanski could direct the next Batman and I would not rent it or buy it. The man should be in jail and not making movies. So Kick Ass is the clear choice for me. Just saying...

Hah yeah she is nice. I like Olivia Williams a bit better though and she's great in it too. Keep in mind the US version is censored from what I've read.

You need to learn to seperate the art from the artist. You might as well not experience any art because the truth is, great art usually comes from f'ed up people.

I'm not supporting what he did but the fact is he did serve time and got screwed around by a corrupt judge. Can you really blame him for going back to Europe? Not to mention the fact that the victim said to drop it and has publicly forgave him.

From what I can tell it's the people that have this kind of personal vendetta against Polanski, Michael Jackson, etc that are the ones with the problems.

Honestly, I don't understand why so many people feel the need to bring this up any time that a Polanski directed film is mentioned.

On top of that, following this line of thinking, even if Polanski had went to jail, the incident happened about 33 years ago. He would've served 3 - 5 years, 8 at best, and would still be currently making movies.

I would go for Kick Ass myself, although both films are great I think Kick Ass would be a better blind buy.

Be warned though it's not a kids film no matter how they market it.

I'd go with Inglorious Basterds. It's much better then Kick Ass (not that KA is bad, it was surprisingly very good & I'll be picking it up later today after renting it last night). But IB is just an awesome movie, plus the PQ & AQ on it are top notch.

I would say the Ghost Writer is far and away the better film of the two. Kick-Ass is a fun movie and all, but The Ghost Writer is one that I feel will be regarded as an underrated classic.
