Well, the DVD has Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono and the blu-ray is stated as a LPCM 1.0 audio track.

The audio is uncompressed so it is better than the DVD audio. I am sure it is more than suitable for the film. Most upgraded split surround mixes for films are always more center / front driven anyhow, and Criterion at least doesn't go against the film makers wishes when it comes to these techical issues.

(I could see how they could upgrade by doing a new full out mix when it comes to Howard Shore's eerie score, but something tells me Universal and maybe Criterion could not upgrade for different reasons.)

That said, they aren't entirely comparable, as The Fly is more body-horror, gross out-scary and Videodrome is surreal and bizzare-scary.
Well, I am embarrassed to say that I am a horror fan that has never seen this film. I've had friends reccomend it to me over the years, but I never got around to seeing it.

It's time to Netflix this mutha and give it a go!

Well, I'm not gonna blind buy the Criterion Blu. If the DVD just has crappy PQ and AQ I can deal with it.

Is it missing vital scenes or something?

Default Deep Discount

Just ordered mine at deepdiscountdvd.com for $23.97 with free shipping. Also got Cronos criterion and Antichrist criterion for the same price. (Although Antichist has since sold out) Best deal I've seen so far and I've searched high and low.

Most Barnes & Noble locations stock VIDEODROME, looks like Best Buy isn't stocking it in my area at all. (this seems to be the norm now for Criterion titles.)

I've noticed that Best Buy has really cut back on "niche" titles of all kinds. It's apparently part of their move to reduce their media section. If it's not a recent Hollywood movie or a popular U.S. TV show, you might as well just preorder it from Amazon. I just ordered Vampire Circus (out next week) from Amazon because I really don't expect BB or any big retailers near me to stock it.
