Yeah and that Superman footage wasn't worth watching (because of the camera work not the film). I read a lot of people were getting kicked out of the panels. Security guards were on some serious patrol during shown footage WHICH ****ING SUCKS!

Security was crazy at comic con this year, guys. The footage may make it up, but it'll be pulled quick of it is, assuming no one got caught. Security was patrolling the whole time, really watching to make sure no one recorded anything. It was crazy. And I gotta say, the Ant-Man and Iron Man 3 footage was just AMAZING!

Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ Could Be Marvel’s Third Film in 2014

Marvel Studios has been fairly solid in its plan to release two films per year over the next few years. But there’s a movie that might help the outfit change that plan: Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man, which made its very early debut last weekend at Comic Con via impressive test-footage Wright shot just a couple weeks back.

Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito (director of the new short Item 47) talked in an interview about a couple different subjects, including the possibility of squeezing Ant-Man into the 2014 schedule, should Wright be able to jump right from his production The World’s End to the Marvel film.

D’Esposito covers a few different topics in his interview, but here’s what he had to say about packing one year’s schedule a little more tight than others:

Quote:
That might be an opportunity where we do a third film, depending on his schedule when he finishes World’s End. But he’s such a competent filmmaker; the script is in great shape. The test will prove a lot of things on the visual effects front: how do we handle the shrinking, obviously, and the scale issues, because when he’s small he’s a half-inch. So we’re gonna work that out, maybe that’s when we do a third film.
Presumably, there are multiple reasons to get Wright behind the camera for Ant-Man sooner rather than later, and once the film is done Marvel won’t want to sit on the picture. The good news is that, based on what we saw, Ant-Man would be a movie that could easily play outside the typical summer tentpole season — it could be Marvel’s entry into the fall calendar. And while he doesn’t mention a year specifically, the time frame would have to be 2014, before The Avengers 2 comes around. (And what are the chances that Marvel is considering Wright as a director for that sequel?)

And on that front, the co-pres of Marvel also talks about the idea of giving small Marvel characters time in lesser-budgeted movies that might be rated R. That doesn’t sound very likely, as the cost of marketing a movie is high enough that if Marvel is going to put muscle behind something, they want it to have the potential to be huge. So it’s going to be tentpole stuff all the way. That said, he also mentions that people seem to respond better to original content (such as his short film Item 47) than deleted scenes on DVDs, so we can expect to see more of those.

Me too! But you know people are going to come in and say 'superhero movies are being over-saturated in the market. There are too many!' Considering the money being made on the good superhero movies, I think audiences are pretty happy. I would be so happy to get more than two Marvel movies a year.

With Marvel's "Phase 2" in full force -- including a sequel run for Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Avengers -- it's easy to forget that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is still waiting patiently on the sidelines, just itching to get made.

However, it now sounds like Captain America may have a hitch in his giddy up. According to Chris Evans, who was making the interview rounds at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend, production for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is now scheduled to begin in March instead of the end of this year.

This leaves a gap in Marvel's shooting schedule between Thor: The Dark World and Cap 2. As a result, it's possible that Ant-Man could fill that gap.

As Screen Rant points out, director Edgar Wright recently noted that he could begin shooting the film in London directly after Thor 2 wraps production. Additionally, Marvel heads Louis D'Esposito and Kevin Feige have hinted that Ant-Man may hit theaters as soon as 2014, which means the studio could be lined up for three major releases in one year.

Should Ant-Man nab the production slot, fans can expect to see casting announcements in the very near future.
As it stands, Iron Man 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013; Thor: The Dark World on November 3, 2013; Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 14, 2014; Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014; and The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015.
This would be awesome!

Wright said he could start shooting directly after Thor : The Dark World wraps. Maybe he will be done with TWE at that time.

That's the plan. It sounds like Captain America 2 and Ant Man have switched production schedules, cause Ant Man was going to be the spring shoot. The World's End will be done by this winter, so there is a good chance this is true. Ant Man is well Into pre-production so it would make sense that he's jumping into it.

Will this Ant-Man be Hank Pym? I know Marvel likes to retcon characters like crazy, often with some "unexpected" person ending up with some kinda powers.

i remember early on (waaaaay early on) it was supposedly going to have Hank and Scott Lang. Although i wouldnt mind if they swapped Lang with Eric O'Grady, i think Wright would have some fun with that character.

Sounds awesome - any news that points to this getting made sooner rather than later is good to me!

But I do wonder if they'd really film it this soon - Wright could be finished with filming The World's End by then but he'll be heavily involved in the editing and post-production side of it. Plus he'd need time between the shoots to get Ant-Man ready.

Also, shooting Ant-Man before Captain America and Guardians would give it a hell of a lengthy post-production period, given that it's closest release date would be autumn 2014. All the other Phase II films seems to allowing for about a year from filming to release - Iron Man 3 12 months, Thor 2 14 months, Captain America 13 months. Assuming it would start in November time Ant-Man would be roughly 24 months away from release (if given the same November slot as Thor has next year). I realise Ant-Man is SFX heavy but... well, they all are.

So, if it's true - brilliant! But I think it's more likely that it will film late next summer - after The World's End has been released and towards the end of the Guardians shoot. There's no reason they can't overlap - Iron Man and Thor have done.

Comicbook.com has an excerpt of an interview with Marvel studio producer Victoria Alonso where she confirms that Marvel is working on the test footage and they plan on releasing it. My personal prediction is Spring 2013 where it will be a special added bonus to the delayed Phase 1 collection

For some reason, I imagine the six million dollar man sound effects going with it.

The storyboards just make me want to see the real footage even more!

For starters, I'm sure he's going to actually grow and not just suddenly be big or small. So it should work fine. I liked the bit with him running on the gun.
