Looks like a 5 disc set - two episodes per disc so should be nice picture

If you like GoT and can't wait until March try Pillars of the Earth - similar politics and medieval style but no fantasy elements. US bluray is region free. Series has 8 x one hr episodes.

I would expect this to be a 4-disc set since it only has 10 episodes. HBO puts 3 episodes on each disc for True Blood (12 episodes), except for the last disc since it has the non-Enhanced Viewing special features on it.

PROSPECTIVE DVD & BLU-RAY DATES
We’ve all been waiting for the first signs of the Game of Thrones first season DVD & Blu-Ray box set… and it seems to have arrived with strong suggestions that the discs will role out in at least several countries in March 2012, approximately 1 month before the premiere of season 2 of the series. First off, in the UK, the British Video Association notes a March 19 date for the release over there (UK Preoder: DVD, Blu-Ray). And France appears to be even luckier, with Warner Brothers France indicating a March 7th date—quick work!

What does this mean for the US? It really does seem that the ides of March, give or take a week, are what we should be looking at for the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray sets (US Preorder: DVD, Blu-Ray). We can be sure that there’ll be a lot of extras on the sets, including some audition tapes for actors, behind-the-scenes footage never seen before, and episode commentaries—and from what we’ve heard, that may just be the start!

Has any one seen a release date for this yet. It would make sense to me if it came out before Christmas, though it seams unlikely considering the site does not have a release date up yet.

By the sound of it, the Blu-ray will be released in March. HBO usually releases their TV sets just before the new season begins for promotional purposes.

Just saw the first episode the other night!

People are so excited about this, had to check it out and indeed, pilot was very good.

Actually is start off, understandibly, slow due to character development...but after the first couple of episodes it really gets going! Can't wait for this to be released!

Let's hope there is a better collectors edition although I might wait until there is a complete series limited collectors edition... don't know if I'll be able to wait that long though..

Assuming the 5-dsic part is true, that's 3 episodes/disc plus a whole disc for extras! Sounds pretty good to me, especially if the 5th disc(presumably for extras) is a BD, that's a lot of room for extras material. Also they could throw more extras on the episode discs(commentaries, deleted/extended scenes, etc) without jamming up the disc space.
I'm sure we'll find out more in the coming months, can't wait!

Actually, this show is only 10 episodes per season, which makes the choice to go with 5 discs like they do with True Blood kind of surprising. It is also surprising that they chose to put the episode guide in a booklet rather than just print it on the insides of the digipak like True Blood as well. I'm not complaining though as this should shape up to be another stellar TV release from HBO on Blu-ray.
