After 20 years of refusing to read the books, I was gifted a nice box set with all 7 books and this last week have read the first one. It was actually an enjoyable read, though sometimes it felt a bit jarring how things were looked over/ignored, not further explained and everyone seemed fine with these situations. Especially Harry, who supposedly wasn't aware of anything magic until a few days earlier.

Anyways, I have seen all the movies in theatres when they were released but never really enjoyed them and was usually dragged along with other people who really wanted to see the movies. 12 years I met my partner who turned out to be a Harry fan and he bought the Complete Wizards chest set in 2012 and that Christmas I was "forced" to endure the movies again.

Last night, we watched the first movie again, after I finished reading the book. It was interesting to watch the movie immediately after reading the book and constantly noticed the differences. Although the movie was 2,5 hours long, it seemed like an extremely rushed version of the book and although the book is primarily aimed at children, the movie seemed even more "dumbed down". The audio and picture quality weren't bad perse, but not really great either, after watching some more recent BR releases. The CGI was horrendous and almost comically cartoony at times. It's been around a decade since I watched Lord Of The Rings, which came out the same year as Harry Potter, so I'm scared how outdated those effects will seem now.

This week I'll start reading the second book and the plan is to watch the movie after finishing the book.

The books are incredible, and just get better as the series goes on. It's been a long time since I read them, but I'm pretty sure Order of the Phoenix was my favorite, either that or Azkaban.

I've been looking for a Blu-ray remaster of the films, however, I might just have to bite on the current 4K release. I remember reading half of Order of the Phoenix in just a day and was told to stop and save the rest for reading later

that's an odd suggestion as that is my favorite film and favorite book in the series but some of the stuff cut you kind wonder why? i'd love to see the workprints of all the films one after another and than watch the Theatrical versions just to see which version is better

and if what was cut was good that it was cut out or if it was a terrible decision but i don't have any of the workprints sadly for me to do that
