Default Collect TV Shows on DVD or wait for Blu-rays?

I don't know about anyone else but I have a ton of TV Shows that are on DVD and not blu-ray and it is basically a waiting game to see if they will ever be released. Is it a good idea to just put all TV Shows on DVD that I haven't bought on the backburner and wait for the blu-ray or to go ahead and buy it on blu-ray?

I guess it really depends on how old the TV show is, and would it benefit from the blu upgrade. TV shows don't seem to be appearing on Blu at the speed they made it to DVD, and when they do it's sometimes in an odd way. For example, Big Bang Theory season 3, but not 1 or 2.

I don't buy movies on DVD anymore, but I recently picked up 'Miami Vice: The Complete Season' (used) on DVD. While it would look fantastic on blue I'm not sure it will ever be done. The cost for the music rights would be immense, and I'm not sure how well it originally sold.

Sounds like you need a satellite/cable provider and a DVR to me. That's exactly why I don't buy many TV shows on DVD or BD.

I never buy DVDs anymore. So if you ask me I will always wait for the blu-ray.

I won't buy DVDs of any current show, and for the ones that aren't released from season 1 I'm not getting either until the whole series is in BD. Older shows are a different story.

I was actually considering buying DH, but after the last 2-3 seasons, I'm glad they weren't released so I didn't waste my money, I'm just going to watch it once and be done with it.

You can add Big Love to that list as well.

I don't think you are going to see a lot of 'older' TV shows on blu-ray, unless they were very popular or the show has a certain niche. There has been talk of 'Friends' coming to blu-ray and maybe 'Seinfeld', but they were fairly big hits. I don't think you'll see the likes of 'The Jeffersons' or 'Family Affair' on blu-ray. I don't think the market is there (maybe one day, but not anytime soon).

+1 on Castle. I bought Castle season 2 as soon as it was released because I did not want to wait for a blu ray release. I can always get the blu when it comes out.

I have a PVR and even download episodes, yet I still want to buy my favourite TV shows. I care for quality and BD is simply the best PQ there is.

I buy the DVD when I think there's no chance the show will ever be released on BD.

Usually more on DVD than Blu-ray.

Lots of classic TV shows, anime shows are released on DVD and the quality/price is definitely balanced, also worth it.

I've pre-ordered One Piece: Collection One [DVD], didn't buy the season sets because I didn't like how they did it before "season x voyage x".

Is Desert Punk available on Blu-ray? Nope, only on DVD.

Blu-ray Upscales tend to look horrible, one more reason to be picky and do the research before doing a blind buy.

Friday Night Lights, The Shield, The Wire, Rescue Me (with the exception of Season 3), Southland, Homicide, Twin Peaks, Miami Vice... all DVD only. So, yeah.

I have a lot of TV shows on DVD. Would I rebuy any of them if they were put otu on Bluray? The only one I'd consider is Gilmore Girls as its my favorite TV show of all time.

Red face dvd to bluray

Well, about sticking to DVDs? I only buy DVDs when they are on sale. I remember years ago they use to be $30. Now they are under $20-$5! So I would continue to buy stuff on DVD. Like Kids shows, Disney, other movies, anime, etc. I mean, BluRay it would take a few years to get EVERYTHING on BRD format. Also, for those Sold out companies like Dic, Pioneer, etc, some of them will never make it on BluRay. Like my all time favorite anime Sailor Moon, I dunno if Toei Japan will release it in BluRay like they just did with Dragonball Z. Disney already cought up with a lot of BluRay titles, - still waiting for Aladdin and Little Mermaid so hopefully in the future. For now, TV shows like Full House, The Simpsons, Family Matters, Adams Family, etc, I don't think those classics will ever come to BluRay. Especially older TV cartoons like; Jem and Holograms, Ducktales, etc. So We would have to wait and see within the next 5 years! But rumors are, 3D BluRay is coming, so I am NOT buying 3D. Because I get tired after watching a 3D movie in theatures and playing on my 3D DS Nintendo Game Boy So yeah. I would not get rid of your DVD player. I gave my old one to my Grandparents home, and they enjoy that more. They find these "upgrade gadjets" are just too much, too expensive, and too much of a "fad"... So yeah I see ya point. Right now I have about 200 DVDs and only 6 BluRays. So at least my BluRay player still plays DVD Magnavox one I got from Walmart for my birthday in 2011 I dunno what you guys think. That is my thought.

I'll continue buying Seinfield seasons as long as Best Buy keeps the prices low.

I like all my shows to match format. If I started buying it on DVD, I will buy future seasons on DVD (which will likely mean a lower cost to me). Examples: House, The Office, Futurama, The Simpsons. I started collecting these on DVD long before the transition to Blu and will keep buying the DVDs.

However, I try to keep any new shows that have a BR option on BR. Mad Men and Dollhouse I own on Blu. I have plans to get Deadwood, Eastbound and Down and The Walking Dead on Blu eventually.

I do the same thing. I started buying Rescue Me on dvd, so I kept that up for the whole series. The only exception for me was Lost. I had the first two seasons on dvd, but as soon as they started coming out on blu ray, I switched to that.

I'm always tempted to buy some seasons of The Office on dvd when I see them for a good price, but I see enough of it on the reruns. I'll wait until the show ends and get a complete set on blu ray hopefully. The same goes for Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Walking Dead. And I really hope Seinfeld does come out on blu ray. I've waited this long to buy that show, I might as well wait for it on blu ray now.

personally i own a great deal of tv series on dvd but few on blu-ray in fact im very disapointed by the lack of tv series on blu, of course i understand all the reasons financial, economic etc... behind the decision of those in charge to cut the number of series on blu but anyways i do hope those financial reasons will change one day and that they will also change their mind and offer us more series on blu-ray in the future.

I'm going to continue with DVD if I already have seasons on tha format. I only go Blu-ray with TV series if I can start fresh at season 1 and don't already have any seasons of the series on DVD.

I have two seasons of Seinfeld and two of MASH on dvd, but will not get more, because when television shows hit big on blu I'm sure these two shows will be released. Until then I will watch what I have on disc and the rest on cable.
