I'll pop in HMV on Monday. Thinking about getting this as I've never seen it.

Got mine today from Amazon.
Been so long since I saw it I had forgotten it was a Disney film. I wonder if SS can get some more Disney titles and make it easier for UK collectors to get Disney Movie Club releases for less than a kings ransom.
20000 Leagues and The Black Hole have set me back around £60 each

Also recieved mine today, from Zavvi. Usual poor packaging but no damage of note. Set looks amazing and I cannot wait to revisit this classic.

Like The BFG and some others, this isn't really a Disney Film. Disney only has distribution rights in some regions.

20000 Leagues and The Black Hole are fully Disney so the chance of Disney giving up right anywhere is remote

I didn't know that.
FOTN opens with the Disney ident and then the credit "Walt Disney Presents.."
although it does then mention some other production company.

But if Disney has the UK rights to the movie and let SS release it they could do worse than make a deal with some label that wants to make them a bit of cash for some of the movies they seem happy to let rot away earning nothing

Disney UK have never really understood the world of the adult collector on any format but now Disney USA has the same blinkered viewpoint

I don’t understand why Disney UK don’t just port across the movie club exclusives over here, they could do them as HMV exclusives or something. I mean, the disc content and art are already done, it would be minimal effort to release them here, and easy money for them, as there’s loads of popular titles, and Disney collectors love to buy everything, so they have a full set.

As I understand things this seems to be the beginning

"The film's producers initially sent the project to Walt Disney Pictures in 1984, but the studio was unable to approve it and it was sent to Producers Sales Organization, which made a deal with Disney to distribute it in the United States.[4] It was partially shot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and in Norway, being a co-production with Norwegian company Viking Film.["

So those 2 companies produced the film along with New Star Entertainment. I'm assuming Buena Vista paid something to add their name to their distribution area and to garner certain rights

Disney distributed it theatrically and on Home Video in North America and it appears UK theatrical distribution (probably why the Walt Disney Presents in on your Videos, but they don't seem to have ever had Home Video rights in UK. It appears CBS/Fox originally did the VHS, then Cinema Club and Second Sight

The US DVD lists "Walt Disney Pictures presents ...... a Producers Sales Organization Picture"

The UK DVD is listed as a Viking Films presents a New Star Entertainment Production with a Tri-star and PSO copyright Distributed by Second Sight.

Looking on the rear of some of the other home video, I'm seeing Roadshow in AUS had theatrical and Home Video rights in AUS, Fox has original VHS rights in Germany then passed to Splendid Film for DVD/BD. TriStar is listed on UK DVD and BD
Fusion is listed in France for the DVD. Some other companies I don't recognize had the DVD distribution rights in Brazil, etc.

I'd completely forgotten I had this preordered on Amazon and got a shipping notification a few hours ago. As far as the film, I'm pretty sure I've watched it on TV when I was young but I don't actually remember much about it. Hopefully I'll still enjoy it as an adult. Seems like it's a film geared more towards kiddies. If I love The Neverending Story (incredible film still to this day), am I going to enjoy Flight of the Navigator?

I would say yes. I remember seeing it a couple times as an adult (who am I kidding - I was post grad and married when it came out) and it was still quite fun.

I watched it a few months ago with the kids and I really enjoyed it, sure it's a kids movie but still a lot of fun for adults. I have the original Second Sight release Blu from a few years ago. If you love Neverendingstory I think you'll enjoy this. I've watched it about half a dozen times and its easily a movie you can pick of the shelf annually for a watch so worth splashing out on.

That's how the UK Blu opens too.
Such a waste that the Disney archive remains largely unexploited on Bluray. The superb Disney Treasures series would be great but the majority of the titles didn't even get a dvd release in the UK which also missed out on some key releases that did make it to other parts of Europe.

The DMC almost seems like a middle finger from US Disney management to the collectors telling them to think themselves lucky they're getting Blurays for these movies at all.
I don't think a single DMC title has been released to Blu outside the US.
The huge archive of animated shorts that Disney built itself upon also get the middle finger with a mere handful on Blu. A few more on Blu in Europe but not the US and none at all in the UK if you don't count the few hidden on the Snow White disc.

It seems that since Roy Disney departed the current management are happy to live off Star Wars and Marvel twice a year but don't want to acknowledge the material that enabled Disney to acquire those in the first place.

I do hope I'm still around when there's a change in Disney management to people who realise exactly what they're sitting on. Presumably the lack of effort required means they'll put some of this on their streaming service but I doubt many collectors will be happy with that

Thoughts on the remaster? Mine’s being imported, so I’ve still got some waiting ahead of me.

Watched it on Saturday night, to my eyes it looked pretty great.

Very nice set of extras too - Cramer comes across very well in his interview (which surprised me given his ‘troubles’ of late), and Veronica Cartwright is always worth watching. Only (slight) disappointment is no Cliff De Young - would have been nice as everyone says how much of a great guy he is.

It’s a lovely physical package and I couldn’t really fault the disc. Another winner from SS
