I believe these are the "Mastered In 4K" titles. They will be released on May 7, 2013.

Angels And Demons
Battle: Los Angeles
Ghostbusters
Glory
Karate Kid (2010)
Other Guys
Spider-Man
Taxi Driver
Total Recall (2012)

Barring Ghostbusters and possibly Glory, all these are already sourced from 4K masters so presumably they'll be the same disc.

There's no doubt that they will be. Sony will just issue new slipcovers/cover art or slap a sticker on pre-existing stock.

Not to mention, most CGI is rendered in 2K, so will have to be up-rezzed ro 4K. Heck, even Skyfall was shot at 2.8K an the Arri, then up-rezzed for its Faux-IMAX presentation. Which is why Roger Deakins said 4K is pretty much unnecessary.

It always puzzles me when distributors split up "companion" films, by giving one a certain kind of treatment (say, steelbook) but not the other. If it's simply a commercial decision, don't they realise that it would be a sales incentive for people to maybe double-dip on the other?

The obvious title in this context on iScottie's list is Angels and Demons. Why not Da Vinci Code as well? Or is it just a matter of when the master was first struck, and what technology was available at the time? So, as 42041 says, there's almost nothing here that's actually new?

Marketing money grab.

The expanded color is an interesting note, but they should have been doing that a long time ago.

What, even 2002's Spider-Man? I thought that was mastered at 2K?

Amazing Spider-Man is also listed, and of course we know that one was mastered in 4K already too so it'll be the same as the existing one.

Thanks.

I only searched by new release films and I didn't see that one listed.

Sorry to sound like a newb but you're saying the "The Other Guys" that's supposedly being remastered to 4k will not be any better quality then the bluray I already own? It's nothing more then just some new artwork?

Well, if they've done a new scan of 2002's Spidey then I might have a look see at the new Blu-ray.

From what I've been able to dig up, the 2002 Spider-Man didn't actually use a full DI (though presumably the visual effects were filmed out from 2K), so I suppose a 4k remaster wouldn't be too crazy of an undertaking for Sony.

It's basically like DVD's that say "mastered in High Definition."

DVD's aren't HD, and these blu-rays aren't 4k.
