Very interesting read, thanks for posting! A guy called Douglas Trumball is planning a sci-fi epic at 120fps, and in the seventies he showed off test reels of 70mm film that ran at 60fps! We'll see 4k 3D in commercial feature films soon enough, though. Avatar 2, 4k 3D @ 60fps, maybe? |

I would hate that thou, to false looking, like watching a long making of documentary, its bad enough now that most films look like a extended soap episode on LED screens, well to me anyway, better on plasma thou, i miss the film like exsperience that we use to get on the crt sets, why oh why did they not go HD on them, size of the sets would not have bothered me, quality above anything else for me every time.

2)Play a BD at 24p or better yet, switch to a DLP projector and you won't complain about it not being 'filmic'. IMO, 24hz just doesn't cut it for 3D due to the motion. |

Having rewatched this several times since UK release day on Monday, the 3D is great, but i do find that when things start getting a bit frantic on screen, if there is a lot of fast moving action or quick cuts, i can barely tell whats going on, and characters are incredibly hard to focus on. Does anyone else find this problem?

If you have any sort of motion (smoothing or anything that filters the image etc) effect on your tv or projector I highly recommend turning it off while watching 3D as it tend to really play havoc on the PQ, it does with my projector anyways. Also my projector switches it on itself automatically for 3D and I have to go in and turn it off manually (even though it says it isn't on) each time I watch a 3D film. |

I'm certain that my TV has all of its motion smoothing off when i watch 3D as i check. I've noticed the same kind of effect with Prometheus, but that doesnt have any fast cut action in it so it's barely noticeable. It's almost as if it's something that's happening with movies that were shot native. The only animation i've noticed it with is Rio. |

Well as I say, mine switches on automatically for 3D even though it says it is set to OFF! I have to go in and toggles through the settings and set it to off myself. Give it a try. I usually just pause as soon as the first frame comes up and then toggle through the settings to off. It may not be that, but it might help. |

That's true, as even the manual says "for the best 3D effect, sit 5 to 6 feet away from the 3DTV set", along those lines. 2 foot or less is too close for great 3D. 5 inches from the set, also too close.

Maybe do a google search on your tv model and see if anyone else is having a similar problem on forums. That's how I got my answer. As I said above, all of my settings say they are off but they ARE NOT and when I start the film I actually have to toggle through them and reset them to off to turn it off. In the case of my projector when it switches to 24hz, the 'motion' setting changes automatically as it switches frame rate (which is why it doesn't do it in 50/60hz non 3D films) and into 3D. Yours may do the same thing. The fact it says it is 'off' doesn't mean anything. Actually go in and turn it off AFTER you have started the film and done the 24hz change over. Sometimes you can even do it from the menu if that is in 24hz as well. For test scenes to make sure mine is off I used to use Avatar and the scene where they first get to Pandora and that black tiger like thing is chasing him after the rhino like thing charges at him. That was the scene that had it the worst for me. Last edited by Impossible; 04-12-2013 at 02:40 PM. |

It's true that a number of Manufacturers don't bother to make their TV sets as user-friendly as the could have. Like putting in a 3D disc, then a prompt pops on the 3DTV saying, "Switch to 3D, Yes/No?"while it's in 3D, then if you don't click right, then press enter, it switches automatically to 2D................
![]() Sony's Bravia 3D is much more user friendly in that sense. |
