I rarely, rarely, rarely ever give up on a show. I was really into Heroes when it started... and I got so burned out that I missed one of the new episodes, never bothered to see it, then didn't watch the next week, and never bothered to catch up. I was just done. It got so convoluted and stupid, and so far away from what made me like it in the first place, that I bailed and never regretted my decision.
I might give this a watch (if it looks good) and if it's not dependent upon Heroes. I can't remember that mess of a "story." Usually when I watch NBC, it's a sitcom (The Office, Parks and Rec). Besides Heroes, I've never watched one of their dramas or serious shows. I doubt Heroes Reborn will change that, but we'll see. |

Got a good feeling about this series being brought back. If they've listened to the feedback of the fans, they'll try to start off with the tone that S1 originally had, which is still the best season thus far IMO.
Not at all. They don't rely on many flashbacks, and have each episode telling multiple stories at once, and not like Lost which would concentrate on one major character and show their backstory throughout the whole episode. |

I'm worried that it sounds like they are once again listening to the fans in what they are doing to bring back the show. |

If so, they went in a completely different direction than I expected and wished for during the remainder of the series, and not for the better, so I can't see how that's the fans' fault if they indeed were requesting more of what we got in S1. If that's what you call listening to the fans, then the writers have terrible hearing problems. I was only suggesting they go back to their roots, yet with a twist, since new characters and actors are being introduced into the storylines, while recurring characters who we're accustomed to will find their spots to fit in this "newer, updated universe." If that's considered a bad idea, then I accept that opinion, and will hope it plays out the way I would like it to when the new season premieres. My main concern is that it will be overly crowded with characters of new and old, but if they can find a way to rectify that concern, then all the better. |

I don't remember all the details... some of it was talked about on the DVD/Blu-ray releases behind-the-scenes stuff...
Season one, though, some characters lived that were originally supposed to die (like Sylar) and others died that they originally had living longer. Basically they started changing the story during season 1 to accommodate the popular and unpopular characters by fan feedback and it changed their endgame. Season two was originally supposed to introduce more new characters and even spend more time with them... but they ended up sticking with the "familiar" ones. The writers' strike was not a friend to Season two either... they had longer plans that got cut short so they altered the end to season two based on a combination of things and dropped some subplots almost entirely. Season three and four kept trying to give fans what they thought they wanted... which was more of the popular characters for the most part. Not all fans liked the show, of course, and ultimately in trying to give what they thought fans wanted they ultimately didn't do that at all... but it was in trying to listen to fans and change gears that they fell down the slippery slope. By all accounts, and my fuzzy memory, everything I heard that was the "original" plan for the show was much better than what they ended up doing. Some of it was no doubt network tinkering too, pressuring them to change things along the way. |

Nothing was wrong with altering the plan to keep the same characters going. The problem was they just sucked at it. You don't know that keeping to the original plan would've been a success. They probably would've just tried to ape the first season and you'd just all the same beats over again.
One of the actors on the show talked about how the plots were basically all first acts. They would finish act one, and then start act one again. Nothing developed. |

And they seriously should be genre aware enough to know that major tweaks of a person's powers is going to peeve some fans off. Not all obviously, but when you are re-writing everybody you have a good chance to lose a whole lot of fans. |

That's what I mean by the slippery slope. Writers come up with a show, it will be good or bad and people will like it or not. But, if instead of following their instincts and writing the story that comes naturally to them, they are instead coerced by fan feedback and network intrusion to write something else... the story usually suffers. They are no longer writing what they feel natural writing.

So... I highly suggest (if you haven't already), download the Heroes Reborn app to your smartphone. The six-part prequel they have to the reboot in the fall is BRILLIANT.
Man, Sept. 24th can't come soon enough. ![]() |

The trailer has definitely got me intrigued. I was a little worried about so many of the old cast returning, but the fact that the advertising doesn't overly rely on them seems like a good sign.
I read an interview where Kring suggests that the upcoming series will have a definite ending, which also bodes well. Whether or not this gets a second season and goes downhill again, it should have a pretty self-contained first season, unlike Season 1 of Heroes, which fizzled into anti-climactic climax and into a cliffhanger. Plus, he mentioned something about how its good that they will have filmed all the episodes by the time this airs, as they won't be swayed by fan reaction in order to keep characters on the show. This tells me that they are willing to retire characters that have outlived their usefulness, including killing main characters off, which isn't exactly necessary for a good show, but would make sense considering the premise of Heroes Reborn. |
