You're welcome. I don't pre-order as many films as I used as I generally prefer to wait for sale prices, but I'm very excited about this one. I'm a big Lee Marvin fan and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a dramatic performance. Of course, the rest of the cast is incredible: Robert Ryan and Fredric March in their final film roles, a young Jeff Bridges, and Bradford Dillman. As you probably know, Frankenheimer cut his teeth in television and this is a return for him, not just a coming down.

And if Paramount weren't such foot-dragging laggards, we might be discussing some of their great releases in this thread!

Wasn't a comparison. He stated they weren't bootlegs due to multiple licensing deals. I merely pointed out that one of them clearly wasn't legit.

I really need:
  • Summer School
  • She's Having a Baby
  • Some Kind of Wonderful
  • Gung Ho
  • Private Parts
  • Pretty in Pink
  • The Golden Child
  • Popeye
  • Eddie Murphy Raw
  • Boomerang
  • Elizabethtown
Some Kind of Wonderful is my #2 most wanted, just behind Oxford Blues (I don't know which studio owns that one). Private Parts and Pretty In Pink are in my top 10 most wanted as well.

Saw this listed at DVD Beaver, to be released in Germany on 5/23.

9 Movie Western Collection - Vol. 1 [Blu-ray](True Grit -1969, Hondo, The Man Who Shot LibertyValance, El Dorado, Posse, The Sons of Katie Elder, HUD, Three Violent People, Gunfight at the O.K.Corral) DE Paramount

Paramount is releasing this. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, this is the first time HUD is coming out on blu ray. To be honest, it's the only title in this set I really care about.

However, it is listed as 9 movies on 3 BDs. Basically, 3 movies per disc. Compression issues right? Poor PQ for all 9 movies right?

With standard shipping, it is only $24 from Amazon Germany. It is a waste of $24 to check out the PQ on HUD right? I should just be satisfied with the old DVD for now and wait for probably/hopefully Criterion to get it. I need to be talked out of doing it, but I think I'm going to order it anyway.

BTW, for anyone interested, from my limited research, it looks like Posse, Three Violent People and The Sons of Katie Elder would be new BDs as well.

Volume 1? I wonder what Volume 2 might contain. Those are some of the better Paramount westerns right there.

Of the new to BD releases, The Sons of Katie Elder is a good John Wayne movie for folks like me who enjoy John Wayne movies. Posse is an interesting film with a great supporting cast (Bruce Dern as the antagonist), starring and directed by Kirk Douglas. Three Violent People is the one I've the least interest in, but I've never been a big Charlton Heston fan. As you state, the jewel of the set is Hud. I hope that Criterion releases it, but I'll settle for a stateside Paramount release. I picked up the UK release of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and then Paramount released it in the states.

The price is tempting, but three films per disc doesn't sound promising. I might just wait for individual releases.

I'd love to see Paramount start licensing out their catalog to smaller companies. Some of my holy grail titles would be April Fool's Day and Summer School, but I'd also love to see The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel, as well as Addams Family Values, The Out of Towners (original and remake), Rat Race, and Abandon.

Fingers crossed that it happens sooner than later.

There is a legitimate, region-free Blu-ray of Silver Bullet from Australia. It has several interviews and a terrific audio commentary from director Daniel Attias. You can find the review on this very site. Check it out!
