In Brannigan he wasn't too old and over the hill, in McQ I grant that he may have been too old to play that type of cynical cop. Brannigan was basically a western in modern dress. And I thought Duke fit that environment pretty good in Brannigan.

I've seen that one, but otherwise ignored the Lone Star stuff and most of the pre-Stagecoach titles- always thought they were programmers that didn't really have much to say or that didn't really give him a chance to be John Wayne. Any recommendations?

For anyone looking to pick up some early Wayne titles, DD has a BOGO deal on Olive Titles. You can get many John Wayne titles for 2 for $17.50, which is probably as cheap as you'll find them

Just a heads up that Olive's recent release of "Neath The Arizona Skies" is down to $12 at Amazon. I haven't read any reviews yet of the transfer, but ill blind buy for that price.

Does anyone have specifics on Kino releasing "Dakota"? I think I read it's maybe getting released in November, but can't find anything concrete...

My Top 15 Wayne films (can't name just 10):
The Searchers Red River Rio Bravo Hondo She Wore a Yellow Ribbon The Quiet Man El Dorado The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance McLintock In Harm's Way Rio Grande The Commancheros The Alamo North to Alaska The Sons of Katie Elder Most of these are already on Blu-ray. Note: I didn't include How the West Was Won or The Longest Day as I don't consider those primarily Wayne films. His roles in those films I consider to be cameos (part of the large ensemble cast list). My question is, when are we going to get the following titles on Blu? It's been long enough. In Harm's Way The Alamo The Sons of Katie Elder Circus World (this may be one of the rarest titles in John Wayne's resume) Blood Alley The High and the Mighty Last edited by dommie; 10-03-2016 at 09:57 PM. |
