just had a look for the German platinium version that comes with the jap version on dvd ...not many copies to find??

amazon.de is £17+
amazon.co.uk has only a 3rd party seller at £33
none on ebay even only second hand copies?

was it a low limited number made?
i thought it was only the media book which was limited to 1000 copies not the platinum cult Bluray Amaray

does anyone know anywhere to get it cheaper?
i have run out of places to look.

as far as i am aware the newer version that you have linked to is called the Classic Cult Collection which i can get from Amazon.de and funny enough has not even been listed yet by Bluray.com forums.

the newer Classic Cult Collection Version also only contains the international Bluray version just like the UK blu-ray only the German version has both full screen+16:9 while the UK has only full-screen. (ignore that...the DVD contain the 1.33:1 version so the German Blu-ray is the same as the UK disc.)

The Previous Edition which is what i am looking for...
is the Platinum Cult Edition which contains the International Cut Blu-ray as above + DVD containing the Japanese Cut which has all the missing bits put back in that were cut out.
(while the UK has these as extras i would like a copy of the uncut Japanese version..)

so the one i am after is the Platinum Cult Edition (Bluray+Dvd)

media book edition is too expensive now or i would just get that....looks like the £15 option is all i can do for a second hand copy.

thanks anyway for the assist.

So the DVD is missing? Now that's confusing.

It seems there were a total of 5 versions.
- The Limited Edition with 2 DVDs + 1 Blu-ray (999 copies)
- Another Limited Edition with 1 DVD + 1 Blu-ray (2000 copies)
- Regular 2 disc edition
- Single disc edition
- Limited Wooden Box Edition with 1 Blu-ray (????) only (50 copies)

Ah, 2-disc edition here for 16 EUR:
http://www.bluray-dvd-film-shop.at/d...on-Blu-ray-DVD
(Austria shop, although I guess you should make sure that it's really the 2 disc edition)

And someone seems to sell the media book edition for 29 EUR (instant price, also supports proposed price)
http://www.filmundo.de/neuheiten-fil...t_6292183.html

And I also found a used copy of the 2 disc edition (you should check, if it's really the one mentioned) for 10 EUR, also Austria

There is confusion because what is written here is quite misleading.

1. The Japanese Version isn't uncut. It is simply a version of the film that is edited differently. Yes, there are additional scenes, but they are really quite pointless.

2. All of the extra footage that appears on the Japanese version is provided as a bonus on the UK disc.

3. As far as I know there has been no separate/new remaster of the Japanese version. So, the quality that you will be paying for if you opted for the German disc should be either extremely similar or identical to what is on the UK disc in the bonus section. Additionally, if the Japanese version is on a DVD, it will be PAL-sped.

so for completeness sake are you saying there is no point me getting the German set to add the Japanese version to the UK edition so as to have all variants of the transfer because your saying the bits are already as extras on the uk set.??

i would have thought people would have liked to obtain a cut where the extras on the uk set would be integrated back into the film so as to have a version that was 100% not missing anything.

i guess everyone is different?... i just like having all versions of every film so i can judge which i like best, like blade runner for example i only like 2 of the 5 versions ...but it was nice to be given the choice.

by the way yes i do appreciate that the Japanese version wont be a top tier transfer and understand it might be pal-sped up but i was just looking for an alternative version to add to my set that is all.
if i cant find 1 cheap then ill just give it a miss...no harm done.

Have you actually seen the extra footage that is found on the Japanese version? This is your business, but if you are going to commit to an expensive release, you should at least do your research to find out what are you investing in.

The Japanese footage is on the UK release -- it is not exclusive to the German release -- which is priced very well at the moment. It is basically minor trims that do no expand the story or add any value. Additionally, if the Japanese version is placed on a DVD, it will be a PAL-sped presentation. In other words, in addition to not having remastered content, you will actually be getting compromised content -- which you already have on the UK Blu-ray release.

If you were looking at a scenario like the one with Tony Scott's Revenge, where the shorter Director's Cut is clearly inferior and the only one available on the Blu-ray release, then it is certainly a good idea to invest in the DVD release, which has the vastly superior longer Rated R version of the film.

But you are not.

ok fair enough point taken

but do note some of us members like all the alternate cuts we can get whether its a type of OCD i have no idea

recently got cannonball run and had to get both UK and USA versions due to the American one having a commentary track that the UK edition did not...

sad i know

p.s yes i have watched all the footage contained in the extras of the UK version that were in the Japanese version..and some of it i wish was in the UK version hence me looking to add the DVD to my UK Bluray but its a bit pricey and not worth £15+ just for the DVD.

I understand

But save your money and treat yourself with a better release this Christmas. I am sure you have a long list with releases you wish to add to your collection

You know if you want it enough to pay the money, personally I didn't think it was worth buying cheap. You'll find more information on the Digidreams thread of the German part of the forum. It's well worth reading for the comedy value, where posters taunt Krekel over his use of DNR until he explodes. That thread alleges Krekel bought a Japanese VHS and somehow claimed this gave him the rights to release it on disc (maybe something was lost in translation), as you can imagine it is not a pretty sight on disc. The Blu is mediocre and the colours are changed from the DVD, possibly correctly, possibly not.

Thankyou for the post...do you have a link?

also i thought the UK blu-ray split second was very watchable and brought back many memories from when i watched it earlier in life so i am kind of glad i did not get the German version too if its full of DNR

but if you are also saying the JAP DVD is very badly ported over from an old VHS then i will give it a miss as that does not sound good at all

thanks again to everyone that's contributed information to sway me on this German version of the split second

yes i can be stuborn and set in my ways

I lasted ten minutes through the Japanese disc, it's not as bad as the Phantasm 2 workprint DVD I have that set the standard for unwatchable but I can well believe it was sourced from VHS. The German blu of Split Second also has lossy sound. Here's the thread on Herr Krekel's meisterwerke https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...230906&page=39 Imagine Uwe Boll without the self-effacing good humour.

Is this confirmed to be region B only? Sounds like the U.K. disc is the way to go, but I'm region A only.

Yes, UK is region B. I have both the UK and German releases. IMO the UK is only superior in a side-by-side comparison. The difference between the two is not noticeable enough to matter if you just want to enjoy the film and aren't looking to critique a transfer.

I have the German BD as well and, while it's not a perfect product, it does the job just fine.

I'm Region Free and just ordered this awesome cult gem on Amazon.co.uk.

I spent probably over $10 more than necessary, but I don't care. Its a really awesome romp with Rutger Hauer and that Venom looking monster, so i'm cool with dropping $20 on it with mid-tier shipping.

EDIT 09/13/2017: Got it in the mail last night and watched it.

I don't know why the site reviewer rated the PQ low, I thought it looked great. Yeah, the PQ is a little bit on the rough side, but it was on par with some of the lesser Arrow Video titles (though I imagine a BD-50 would've helped give the transfer even more room to breathe...though at least all it had to share space with was upscaled laserdisc footage).

Still a damn awesome movie, with Rutger Hauer at his most unhinged (yes, even more so than in "Hobo With a Shotgun", another movie I need on blu-ray), a nice nude shot of Kim Cattral for those disappointed she didn't get naked in her hilarious Porky's sex scene (speaking of her, this was like the third movie I watched in the past week she was in after Porky's and Big Trouble in Little China) and that awesome Venom looking beast finally given its due in high def.

Anyhow, if you're region free and are a big fan of this gory cult classic, I highly recommend you to import it, as its extremely unlikely to ever receive a stateside blu-ray (unless Arrow or Scream Factory pull a miracle and actually give this movie the royal treatment for its US HD debut).
