Maybe because it's only the 1/4 slip GB which has been closed. More are waiting for the lenti or fullslip GB.

You have to remember that the 2000 units includes the (as of yet) unannounced version to be made available later this month. PLUS, BluFans only allots a certain quantity for international customers in group buys. AND, there are several of those group buys to divide that quantity to. So, BD.com 1/4 slip group buy probably only had about 150 to 200 to be claimed before it became sold out.

Why, exactly?

Had you not secured a copy, you'd get a chance to secure one later this month. You should only be glad to have secured a copy if no other copies were being released.
