You mean like Battlestar Galactica with both screen aspects?
No thanks, that was a disaster and lousy project and for those who wanted the original had to pay for the complete set with both versions or get the UK region free release.
Only the zoomed in 16x9 version was a stand-alone set for sale in the US, the land of the free and home of the corp greed.

Blu-ray dot com ad and post that this is original aspect of 16x9... is BS and not fact.
The DVD release was zoomed in to make it appear 16x9 (and got fans ticked off).
The blu-ray is yet to be known if it will be original 4x3 or zoomed in 16x9.
The info all over the net is one story or another.

Please stop spreading BS and get the facts.
Where was the bit about TNG being released in SD and not getting sales posted? as I know they originally planned to just upscale the show and release it on Blu-ray but early tests showed just how dire that would be so thankfully they went the HD remaster route but the sales were not what they had hoped for which torpedoed any plans for DS9 and VOY getting the same treatment.

Are we still fighting over the OAR? These debates go on for years. Check out the thread for Horror of Dracula.

Well put.

Have you all written to the company responsible, or are you just shouting into the void?

I hope that digitally remastered graphic is on a sticker and not an actual part of the cover art. For that matter, I wish they had just used the original art.

The problem is that you think it would matter. It's HBO. They didn't use OAR for 2 of their most highly prestigious series, The Sopranos and The Wire. They certainly aren't going to do it here when most commoners would rather "fill their precious screens" than have the art they claim to love presented accurately.

It's not a debate when there's factual proof it was made a certain way. Horror of Dracula is a completely different case altogether, because documentation says different things. This one was 100% verifiably shot 4x3 but being presented 16x9.

Just shouting into the void, then.

From this article

"Look for the release on 7/15, as expected, with all 12 episodes fully remastered in HD. What’s more, the “standard definition visual effects have been replaced with brand-new [HD] CG effects that are based on reference models from NASA” and the audio has been remixed in Dolby Atmos."

HBO is relaunching 'From the Earth to the Moon' with new HD effects

June 26, 2019 — HBO is once again launching its viewers "From the Earth to the Moon."

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing in July, the network is presenting an encore of its Emmy-winning 1998 miniseries that chronicled NASA's Apollo moon missions. All 12 hour-long episodes have been digitally remastered to be in high definition.

"To celebrate the [Apollo 11] anniversary, the standard definition visual effects have been replaced with brand-new CG [computer graphic] effects that are based on reference models from NASA," HBO announced on Tuesday (June 25).

On July 15, all 12 digitally-remastered episodes will be available to watch on HBO Go, HBO Now and HBO On Demand. Then, on July 20 — the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing — HBO2 will air a marathon of the complete series, starting at 8:45 a.m. (ET/PT).

HBO is also releasing "From the Earth to the Moon" on Blu-ray on July 16, with remixed audio in Dolby ATMOS and an "Inside the Remastering" featurette, which provides a behind-the-scenes look at the "decision-making process and work put into updating and replacing the previous CG effects."
As if I wasn't excited enough. Some nice surprises here. Just 3 weeks to go.

Not to be the one guy left carping here, but does that mean they tossed the model shots in favor of all CG do-overs, or is this like TNG, where they retained the miniatures and just fixed up the rest?

I still have my Complete Collection Blu-ray and fire it up occasionally. It still holds up as a fantastic ode to baseball.

YES!! it's about time. I still have my Signature Edition DVD box set set that was released in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio and it looks pretty good even up-scaled to 4K. This is one of the best series ever done by HBO and producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg made sure that it was done right. Much like The Right Stuff, From the Earth has a superb cast. I especially like Ted Levine's portrayal of Alan Shepard, one of my personal heroes (I actually cried when he passed away in 1998). The detailed focus on his battle to get back to flight status after his middle ear/dizziness issue was discovered is outstanding. To this day I love the opening theme song and montage from JFK's immortal "We choose to go to the moon" speech to the suit patches and clips from some of the missions. The series is a nostalgic reminder of a time when this nation was still capable of achieving great things something that I'm afraid has been lost but, hopefully, can found once again. I'm putting in a pre-order as soon as I finish typing this.

It sounds like new all-CGI footage replacing the original FX shots. Depending on the quality of the new shots, it could be good or it could be a clumsy fail. I liked most of the fx work on the original version but there was some instances, especially with the various mission's depictions of the Lunar Module they got wrong, partly due to inadequate research and partly because they didn't have the budget to make each LM specific to each episode/mission.

Apollo 5 through Apollo 14's LMs all had very different outward appearances, engineers continually modified and added hardware and especially changed the gold and silver foil and black pattern insulation with each succeeding mission as they gathered more data on thermal issues. Apollo 15-17 (the ones that carried a Lunar Rover) were almost identical with only very minor variations in their appearance.
