I just found out about this movie and now I really wanna see it. Wikipedia says the poor film was butchered by its distributor and cut by 38 minutes, going from 118 minutes to 80 minutes. The reverse of the Synapse DVD says it’s uncut at 85 minutes. What’s the story here?

If that longer cut ever existed, not sure if the footage can still be found -- but wouldn't that be incredible?! Thanks for keeping this post alive, and let's hope something finally happens in the modern home video world with this gem of an American vampire classic!

The more I hear the name Don May, the less I want to hear the name.

Are you sure it was him and not just someone projecting their own ideas onto something the know nothing about? I mean, I wish the man himself would partake in the banter about this kind of thing, but he might not be aware of any of the talk.

When Synapse released the Blu-ray of Thriller, I think they had a cut considered uncut, yet it really wasn't. Don May claims that his goal is to always bring the best restoration. I heard that when his release of Thriller came out it was an older restoration that was used for a DVD release. I guess the story was when he heard Vinegar Syndrome was releasing it on UHD and since he still had the rights for a few more months, he put the older restoration into production and just haphazardly slapped it on a Blu-ray disc and called it a day...until Vinegar Syndrome told him to stop selling a title they had the rights to. I'm not entirely sure if any of that is correct. It's just what I put together after all the talk through various media sources.

When Deadpit on YouTube said they had access to the real story of what occurred they brought Don May on and he skirted around the question saying that when VS asked him to pull the Blu-ray off the market, he did out of kindness or some such what-have-you. Then they started talking about his journey to the ER, and how he almost died.

I feel terrible for his experience going to the hospital, but when someone who claims to have a goal to put out the best quality product yet decides to do what he did with Thriller, I tend to question the morals and honesty of said person. It's extremely entertaining listening to him discuss his business and how he has been a baron of putting out quality discs. But when I heard about his little snafu with Thriller, I lost a lot of respect for his name.

Finding a release of Lemora on DVD, I remembered that he once mentioned a movie that would probably never come out due to it possibly being lost. I'm not sure it's Lemora, but it got me thinking that perhaps I should just get the DVD. I normally stay away from DVD and VHS, but if the only means to view a movie is DVD, and the quality is said to be very good, I guess I should.

Reading this thread had me shaking my head endlessly. I wonder if the picture of him restoring the movie is for the DVD release and not Blu-ray? When he answered the question and mentioned that it depends on the restoration, that doesn't mean he was working on it. I think some decided to run with a lot of assumption and didn't get actual information. But if he did get testy with questions on Facebook and didn't reply with the fact that he wasn't working on any future release, he should just be polite and give them details instead of whatever he did. He should know that if you aren't specific, someone is going to repeat the information without the fact that Don May hasn't had the OCN since before putting out the DVD.

I wish someone on Deadpit would have him on and would go over this thread. Then again, Deadpit were pretty disparaging when they commented on those here in this forum. I enjoy their content, but they seem to think they are holier than thou sometimes, and project that sense of ego onto those on this forum. Funny thing is some of their regular guests have been on this forum. They like to pick fun at one another, but I'm not sure if ramboraph knows about CK's comments. It probably doesn't matter. I'm just trying to get my thoughts conveyed about how I feel about Don May, Deadpit and the constant misinformation and misunderstanding of what has been said and what hasn't. It's very discouraging.

I'm very sorry to anyone who sees this thread pop back up. I have been derided many times on this forum for bumping threads without any actual information as to any possible release. Oh well. You'll just have to get over it.

Screw Synapse they should lose all their current licenses to a label that cares about putting out quality restorations and won't take 10-20 plus years to do it after reading Lancel's entire post I begin to despise and lose any respect for Synapse more and more. A new label should pop up and take all their licenses, and put out them much sooner this is ridiculous they've been doing this for years with multiple titles Tag The Assassination Game, and The Deadly Spawn just to name a couple of them. I personally don't want them getting anymore licenses, and hopefully only put out the licenses they've been sitting on.
