The worst of the lot is Metalstorm. I consider myself fairly 3-D tolerant, but this film is awful on my eyes. There are very few sections of the film that don't bother me. The easiest on my eyes to watch is Amityville, which I credit to director Richard Fleischer, who had previous experience directing 3-D with his film Arena (1953). Jaws and Comin' At Ya! are in the middle. I put Jaws ahead of Comin' At Ya! since it's a slightly better film and I like underwater stereography.

The opening titles are a 3-D Blinkey which were used in comic books in 1953: http://www.3dfilmarchive.com/home/im...ve/comic-books
The text is one side of the camera negative only and that's how the film was released in 1976. Enjoy! Last edited by Robert Furmanek; 02-28-2017 at 08:43 PM. |

That is so bizarre. That's one of the main things I remember about the film, having seen it in 3-D only one time back in 2002.

Is there some reason there are asterisks between the letters?

It was because of M*A*S*H. A popular film and TV series that took place during the Korean war. The film was shot in Korea so they spelled the title that way. It doesn't make sense, but that's the explanation.

It's also because the title is not the word APE. APE is an acronym for "Attacking Primate Monster". |

Yeah, the credits totally threw me when I put it on last night after it was delivered by Amazon. (Also got an E-mail today that informed me that while it was $29.99 when I placed my order, I ended up getting it at the lower price of $19.99, which is more what this movie is really worth!)
A*P*E is actually quite hilarious. I can't even believe they bothered to film such a low budget movie in 3D, but I'm glad they did, as the constant pop-out gimmicks make it even more of a hoot! Especially when the random soldiers would run up to the camera and aim their rifle right in your face. Of course, then they have to go and move it even closer so your eyes cross and it loses effectiveness, but hey, whatever. It's all in good fun! ![]() |

I enjoyed APE even more than I expected to. Its sincere goofiness was reminiscent of THE BEES.

Watched A*P*E 3-D the other day.
While I was watching it, I thought it sucked. The effects, the fact that the Army guy never left his office at all until the end, the "fights" (term used very loosely) between A*P*E and "JAWS shark" and later "Giant serpent", the fact that "Dino" (let that one soak in) was directing a film where Joanna Kerns was repeatedly assaulted (Lipstick????????), the miniatures of the cow and the hang glider, and others. Final impression: It is a work of f***ing genius. It is so gloriously bad. You have to see this movie just for the fact of seeing this movie. It is a thing of beauty. Kudos to Robert Furmanek and the 3-D Film Archive for bringing this to us. Yes, I am being serious. See it. Last edited by Movieman66; 03-03-2017 at 01:19 PM. |
