![]() But, that's kind of the last one I thought was worth seeing at all. And that's almost 30 years ago. Carpenter making a new movie might not be sure a good idea on its own - they don't turn out very well lately in their own right. Halloween 2 '81 was always tedium to me since the 80's. I never understood its love; I guess people would say the same to me about Halloween 4, which I like more. The only two I own are parts 1 (excellent transfer by the way; I have the 2013 disc) and 4. Halloween 1 is excellent to me and still is the same. My two favorite Carpenter films are Halloween '78 and Big Trouble in Little China '86. A movie that tricked me in the 90's, when I was younger, was the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6. I thought it was good back then... But, I recently watched it again and I have to join the camp that think either cut is terrible. The impregnation of Jamie Lloyd by Michael Myers had to have been written by some perv. Also, it makes absolutely no sense as Myers does nothing but try to kill her all throughout parts 4 and 5. --------------------------- I am excited for this new movie, because it seems different. ...And I just hope it works well. I am cautiously enthusiastic on this project. |

I'm always surprised at the hate leveled at the Zombie Halloween films; I can see disliking them (and I'd be the first to admit they're flawed), but he at least attempted to bring some genuinely disturbing violence and characterization to the franchise. So many of the same fans trashing these are eager to defend the utterly generic and by-the-numbers Halloween films that preceded them.
As for Carpenter, I find it pretty laughable that the man who didn't want to direct the sequel to the original because he knew (back in 1981!) that there was nothing fresh you could bring to the table in any creative way with this concept now, in 2017, thinks there is; He knew there was no place to go but down with the very first sequel and eliminated Michael Meyers entirely in only the second one, though I'm sure he was happy to be monetarily compensated in a producer capacity for both. Hey, a paycheck is a paycheck. |

There have been good Myers Halloween sequels before. I quite like Parts 2 and 4. H20 and RZH2 are also noteworthy. There's nothing wrong with fans of the series looking forward to another one.
Just because Carpenter didn't think much of the concept in the years immediately following the original, doesn't mean he wouldn't have anything to offer after almost 40 years. The fact that he decided to come back now, and likes the direction they're taking it enough to possibly do the score, is tremendously exciting for fans. Might it turn out he's doing it for a paycheck? Maybe. But he might also be genuinely interested in personally shepherding his most enduring creation back to prominence. |

Danny McBride co-writing this thing with the director of Pineapple Express and Your Highness is a stroke of pure genius.
Think Halloween meets Eastbound and Down. Michael Myers, an over-the-hill, ex-serial killer, returns to his hometown of Haddenfield and tries to reclaim his former infamy as he starts on a homicidal comeback--righting his previous wrongs along the way—only to unwittingly sabotage his own efforts with a never-ending pattern of chauvinistic and offensive behavior. ...hilarity and bloody mayhem ensue. I guess this has to ignore all the sequels and continue on from the original, then? I've always thought doing it that way makes the most sense because for him to have survived the ending of II, well... you kind of make him invincible/supernatural by default if you do that.

I am of the mind that this can be a continuation of the original story. Mix it as a reboot and a continuation.
Why not have it where Mike was alive this whole time, living in solace somewhere with the occasional murdering done, and he comes to play when there may be some correlation tied to his work done back then to now? Because I am of the mind that we could forget the movies following the original, set it in the modern day, re-write Jamie Lee Curtis's Laurie Strode for the story following the original movie, so she becomes some part of it but not the critical one. Introduce a new cast, tell a story that ties to the original and brings some new story to tell, keep it just as grounded as the original was...and you got a winner. |

I just hope Carpenter has some creative juices left still to make this as great as it can be. The only Halloween films I love are parts 1, 2 and 4 which I consider the Halloween trilogy. The series went to s**t after that and with part 3 IMO.

xD You know, for a time, AMC was showing some of the Halloween movies. They did part 1, part 2, and I know they did part 4 (I think that was the one with the young girl who was in the clown costume?) and there may have been a part 5...but I never saw part 3 on TV anywhere.

These films are loved by those that grew up watching them so I get why you would want a sequel.
Quite frankly I want fresh stories and horrors. The Conjuring was good so was The Wailing. I want these great writers and directors to give me new films. |

Essentially since this is following Carpenter's Halloween I & II, this is the III we never had with Meyers. Also since it is following the events of Halloween II, There's no need to re-cast Dr. Loomis since Donald Pleasence passed away years ago.

How do you consider that a trilogy? Part 4 has nuthin to do with the first two parts. The real trilogy is parts 1, 2, & H20. Those are easily the best 3 Halloween films in the series and the real trilogy that follows same storyline. Got Em!!
