Those were some bleak years. Every year until recently have been poor compared to 1980-1984.

Georgia needs to go to the Florida school of scheduling (and virtually every other high-end team) and schedule a cupcake first. It's like Adam Sandler's character says in The Longest Yard, you schedule an easy team first to get ready for the season. Kind of funny that the team he mentions as the cupcake game is Appalachian State, who Michigan scheduled as their cupcake game a couple years ago and got beat and who won 3 straight FCS National Championships (sadly I was there when they beat Northern Iowa for their first title).

Georgia's opener is going to be decided by how well their new quarterback plays. Joe Cox is a senior so he knows the system but Oklahoma State isn't exactly an ideal first start. He has a good line and receivers and they think they will be fine at running back plus a good defense so he's their biggest question mark. They've only lost 1 regular season non-conference game under Mark Richt but this is probably their hardest non-conference game in a long time.

His backup, Logan Gray, is good. Kid returned punts and was a gunner on punts last year. There's talk he'll b in some sort of wildcat formation this year. Then there's our 2 freshman QBs, who were both in the Elite 8 deal last year. The one kid from Tampa has all the potential. If he can get two years with AJ Green (doubtful), it could be special. I'm most worried about RB. How do you replace Knowshon Moreno? Apparently, with 3 RBs. Not good. Is it Saturday yet? |

That Oregon at Boise State game Thursday should be great. Unfortunately it doesn't start until 10:15 eastern time so most of the country won't see it. I'm in the central time zone so it starts at 9:15 but it will still probably not end until after midnight and I don't stay up that late when I have to be at work at 7 the next morning. I don't understand why they wouldn't have the game start at 9:15 eastern (7:15 local time). That still gives plenty of time for people to get off work and get to the game and would get more viewers. If Boise can win this game on the blue turf then they will have a great chance at going undefeated.

Has anyone heard about this? USF Head Coach Jim Leavitt made his Top 25 coach's poll public, and among some of the more dubious choices, Leavitt left Oregon and Ole Miss (which I take particular offence at) off his list completely, Alabama comes in at #11 (what?!?!), and looky looky, USF sits at #18 (ranked 4th in the abysmal Big East). He also put Pitt (22), Rutgers (23), and Cincinnati (24) in his Top 25 - 3 teams that were unranked at the end of last season and do not appear in the AP Top 25 (exactly like his own USF Bulls). As a matter of fact, the Big East is not represented in the AP Top 25. What the hell is he smoking? Maybe they we should call them the USF Bulls**t.

This just goes to show how dumb it is to have coaches have such a huge part of the BCS. They are clearly biased toward their own teams and conferences. For some reason they decided to make the coaches votes secret this year as well, which Sports Illustrated is going to challenge each week with open records requests to each school, although coaches at private schools won't have to reveal their ballots. I would guess most coaches just end up releasing their ballots rather than having their schools go through the hassle of dealing with the open records request and potential lawsuits if they try and fight the request.

Think? It's guaranteed! I was watching the College Gameday crew making their picks for champs in each conference, and he had a different choice than all the other analysts. Every conference, they all had the same pick and his was the only differing pick. But although he repeated his choice of ND in the National Championship, he did at least concede that Florida would win the NC game. It's time for the guy to hang it up.
The video of their picks is available at espn.com Last edited by rebfandan; 09-01-2009 at 08:51 PM. |

Iowa's projected starting running back, Jewel Hampton is out for the season with a knee injury. Hampton was very good last year as a backup to Shonn Greene, scoring 7 touchdowns. They don't have much depth behind Hampton so Iowa could be in trouble. They already had a hard conference schedule with road games at Penn State, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.

Georgia's chances against Oklahoma State have increased quite a bit this week. OK St. starting tight end Jamal Mosley has left the team for personal reasons, and now starting linebacker Orie Lemon has torn his ACL and will miss the season. Neither of these players are stars but it will still hurt to lose 2 starters during a game week.

UGA lost 20+ players FOR THE YEAR last year. Including several O-linemen...and their backups. LOL. Absolutely ridiculous. People took advantage. While I don't wish even a papercut injury on anyone, I hope UGA similarly takes advantage. |
