Haven't been to proper IMAX in a bit because they don't have reserved seating. I'll be making an exception for this. Looks like it could be the definitive IMAX feature film experience to date.

Mine didn't have reserved seating when I went to see Interstellar, but when I bought tickets today they seem to have implemented it

Unfortunately while the IMAX near me is GSCA certified (and the only certified giant screen in the state), it's part of a kid's museum and they do no reserved seating of any kind. They even got rid of priority seating as a membership perk because it could potentially mess with their non-profit status a few years ago.

So I've gotten super used to reserved seating now and it's just jarring going to any theater without it. I'll make an exception for this though since Nolan seems to have gone all in with the IMAX footage. Should be spectacular.

I was thinking the same thing. Either the movie will be fast paced and remain exciting, or too much development and character will get lost. But I'm hoping it'll be great lol.

I highly doubt a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, since it's Christopher Nolan. But I'm ready to be surprised.

Why is that the thing that makes you doubt an Atmos track? He seemed to be very much okay with HDR while talking about remastering his past films for 4K. Can’t imagine he’d end up being a stickler over the audio.

None of his films even had 7.1 soundtrack, let alone Atmos. My guess is he prioritizes IMAX 70mm over everything else, and that format is natively 6 channels, equivalent to 5.1 in regular cinemas. The DCP is 5.1 too. Most, if not all Atmos movies would be in the DCP with 7.1

Yeah but none of his films were released in HDR and yet he’s happpily remastering away which is my point. They could remix the audio and give us a new Atmos track to go along with the 4K release.

Lol I don’t know. It’s possible but I’m optimistic. I didn’t expect him to be accepting of HDR so I’m kind of hoping he surprises again.

The way I see it, HDR is something that will preserve and deliver his vision. He is very particular when it comes to his cinematography and photography, so HDR offers that extra reach.

He has also outright rejected 3D and spoke nothing about any surround formats.

I think Nolan secretly hugs an IMAX camera to sleep.

That's because once a filmmaker sees how hdr works, it simply gives them the ability to delivery a better picture and like the above said, preserve their vision for home audiences. I've seen alot of interviews with filmmakers who were very skeptical of HDR but quickly changed their tunes once they actually experienced it in the studio.

That makes sense when you put it that way. Atmos has been a thing for a while now and he hasn’t used it yet so why would he start now. :/ Bummer.

This is just me, but I think Christopher Nolan is not just colour blind, he has hearing problems too.

The bass and LFE in his films are extremely loud, and it drowns out the film's dialogue. I get that bass management for IMAX systems is different, but it somehow translates poorly to regular cinemas and Blu-rays. I've actually had to reduce my bass levels at home to make it manageable and less of a headache.

My point is, he's so in love with the IMAX 70mm format that he doesn't realize there is Dolby Atmos.
