Hmmm why do we have two threads discussing the exact same topic? I'd be more inclined to leave the one in the anime section because that's probably where most of the target audience will post their impressions.

Because not all Ghibli fans like other anime and will not go to the anime forum

I like anime but I forget the anime forum exists about 98% of the time. I view it more like the Movies and TV section anyway, if you want to talk about the show or more in general, you'd go there, but if you want to talk about BD releases it seems to me those should be in the BD Movies section. Plus, this is in the Studio and Distributors subsection anyway, which would make sense if we're discussing the GKIDS acquisitions not Ghibli as a whole.

The same reason we have threads for Six Feet Under, Friends, Miami Vice, The Outer Limits, et al in this section while they probably have threads in the TV Shows board.

Besides, this thread was already moved there once and was returned here upon request.

I'd be willing to bet that's going to be the last Ghibli release they do, maybe even release it with Mary and the Witch's Flower probably in the spring.

Howl, Kiki, Totoro, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away re-releases are October 17th then Castle in the Sky and Nausicca are the week after... then Porco Rosso and Arrietty are in November. That leaves 4 more re-releases at two a month.. so we'll probably get Pom Poko and Tales from Earthsea together since they're both kind of fantasy based and then it would make sense to pair Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns together since TCR is basically a 'spin-off' of the Whisper of the Heart for. Which would bring us to February and then that should give us Yamadas and possibly Mary and the Witch's Flower since it's supposed to be released in theaters this winter so that timing would fit.

And then possibly The Wind Rises if Disney's rights end by March and GKIDS get it.

Oh baby. I just need Amazon to price match them and I will hit that pre-order button so hard my computer just might break.

Just saw this on GKIDS' Twitter, looks like the only new bonus feature, at-least for Totoro, is " Textless Opening & End Credits" which is nice, but not worthy of a double-dip in my opinion.

At least the main menu is a major improvement over the Disney one.

Textless opening and ending credits already appeared on Disney's 2006 My Neighbor Totoro DVD.

Gah, amalgam girl again! They should have just used this as the menu background since they didn't need the vertical space!

Thankfully, the only two Studio Ghibli films I actually own are Grave of the Fireflies and Tale of the Princess Kaguya, and those aren't getting a re-release so I'm not concerned about double dipping even if there's virtually no difference between the releases. The Disney versions were always just too expensive.

Best Buy says CITS and Nausicaa are a week later on October 31st though, so that's odd... Walmart has them all too, for $18.01 lol If you have a WM closer than a BB and just need one for whatever reason, Walmart store pickup would be an option.

They may have started out expensive, but they have been $15ish or lower for a while now, plus there was always DMC for the Disney versions. That's how I got most of mine.

Do you have links to all of the titles? I wonder if Amazon would PM them like they typically do.

Considering issues with "dubtitles" and whatnot on the Disney releases, will it most likely be worth it to upgrade to the new Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away releases?

Also, why aren't they releasing Whisper of the Heart? I LOVE that movie!

I realized that, and I almost decided to just buy them but I controlled myself and decided to wait for the new releases this fall. There might be some worthwhile differences.

It'll be released eventually. They're releasing a few titles in small batches at a time.

I just re-read the original post and saw that Whisper of the Heart is apparently coming in the "third wave" of releases.

I know there were issues with the Disney release of Kiki, but were there issues with Spirited Away or Whisper of the Heart that could potentially be corrected by GKids?
