Technically they tried that with SOLO. It was very different from pretty much all other SW movies. And that flopped. So I can see why they don't want to stray too far out there with something new. Having said that, getting the people behind GoT is a good thing.

I would think anyone not liking the recent Star Wars movies would be happy about a Benioff and Weiss Star Wars project.

I read Game of Thrones costs around 10 million per episode. That's certainly a lot for a TV series, but I'm sure the budget for their own Star Wars trilogy will dwarf that.

I bet they have all sorts of ideas. I can't wait to see what they make. Game of Thrones is very well made. They are a great choice.

It’s double edged sword/lightsaber. As popular as GOT is, B&W came under a fair amount of criticism during season 7 from some fans. I use the word fair, though imo there was nothing fair about the criticism, it was mostly based on some people’s strong sense of entitlement. Personally I thought the season was great. But given how some people are, the B&W trilogy does have the potential to attract some of that toxic criticism. Happy to be wrong though.

Regarding GoT, B&W are working with characters and storylines first made popular by George RR Martin. I'd like to see what they come up with that would be considered their own creation, even if they were in collaboration with other writers. Same for Rian Johnson. They're all very talented. Can't wait to see what they got!

If this series of films doesn't have lightsabers, the force, Jedi and/or Sith in them wouldn't they just be some random sci fi fantasy films with Star Wars slapped on to make money?

I guess it depends on what SW means to people individually. For me the heart and soul of SW is the Force and the conflict between the dark and the light (not necessarily Jedi / Sith). Solo is my least favourite SW movie, for a number of reasons, but I think one of the reasons it didn’t make that much an impression on me is because in many ways it was a space adventure, an ok one, but nothing more than that.

Do this to yourself for even mentioning Lindelof.

This is the kind of toxic negativity I was alluding to earlier. Some people can’t let go and they carry their negativity towards certain writers, directors etc to whatever they go on to work on. I hope the same doesn’t happen with B&W.

If the latest rumors are correct that this is going to be a Knights of the Old Republic series, then this is nothing to worry about.

Agreed 100%

The Force elevates the series above being your standard generic sci-fi fantasy for me.

Their work can be identifiable as being set in the Star Wars universe and still be uniquely their own characters.

I imagine most Star Wars creations will feature lightsabers and the Force at some point.

Even ones that may not like the Mandalorian series will have familiar terminology in the dialogue and may visit known locations or see similar styled vehicles or clothing.

It's a huge galaxy, and lots of opportunity to see new things but can easily be tied in with the originals. I just think their work will be accepted more when they aren't dealing with Skywalkers.

I had planned on skipping Johnson's film no matter what and now I can skip the GOT guys too.

I wonder if Benioff and Weiss' trilogy will come out first and then Johnson's trilogy can shit all over what they created?

D and D are not talented writers. They are smart businessmen and passionate Game of Thrones fans, but great filmmakers they are not.

Look at what happened with GoT season 7. Great action. Beautiful set pieces and special effects. Great acting and character interactions. TERRIBLE writing. Glaring plot holes.

S7 is like tLj is you replace the "haha **** you fans" moments of TlJ with "Here fans you wanted this? ok we're giving you what you wanted" moments.

The difference is one is entertaining while the other is a borefest.

TLJ and GoT s7 have a lot in common....it's just the two guys behind GoT wanted to please fans...the guy behind TLJ wanted to flick off fans.

Why do these two trilogies need to be linked to each other though? Why can't these two trilogies just be their own thing? Have one trilogy set in one period of time and then have the other trilogy set thousands of years before or after the other trilogy. Linking them together just feels like it's limiting the potential freedom of what they can do with these movies. Not a fan of this.
