Well I love both Die Hard 3 and Lethal Weapon 3 so it worked out fine as far as I'm concerned!

Yeah IIRC Allen and the cast got fed up with him not being able to remember his lines, so they replaced him with Steve Carell.

I like the fact that 3 is set in New York. It's cool to see McClane kicking ass on his home turf.

On the other hand, first three will do. To support 80s and 90s action films on UHD. I need Predator films, Commando, True Lies, Under Siege and so on...

But that never made any sense. He'd already relocated to LA prior to Die Hard 2. Suddenly in 3, he's back in NYC. And he'd been there at least over a year based on his conversation with Zeus late in the film. He said he got into a fight with Holly over the phone a year earlier, hung up, and they hadn't spoken since. So why was he even in NYC to begin with?

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. People hate DH2 since its the same thing over again with the wife imperiled on an airplane and John has to save her. Then in 3 they changed the whole dynamic and Holly as a character is basically dropped for the rest of the series.

I have such fond memories of DH2, I love that movie. Really hope all of them will see an UHD release eventually.

I've always had a soft spot for Die Hard 2 as well - I saw it when I was 7 or 8 years old before I had even watched the first Die Hard. It legitimately scared the s*** out of me. I understand people's criticisms but my bond with it is so strong (pure nostalgia I guess you'd say) that I just enjoy the hell out of it each and every time I watch it.

Compare DH2 to any action movie of the past 20 years, and it's damn near at the top. I will never understand the distaste. Furthermore, to claim it apes the one location movie of the original is preposterous. I never felt they were reaching with the airport setting. McClane was awaiting his wife at the airport. It's as plausible and down to earth as it gets. I appreciated the scope of DH3, but Renny Harlin does some astonishing things with this airport setting. It's a great action movie.

You're reaching. There's 5 years between DH2 and DH3 and the relationship was somewhat rocky in the 1988 original to begin with. Besides, he didn't relocate to LA as far as I recall, he was just there to surprise his wife, to make things up, which he alludes to when he's in front of the mirror, talking to Al Powell telling him what he jerk he's been to his wife.

Exactly the same here (except I was older ).

I had not seen the first one prior to watching the sequel for the first time either. And I also have a strong connection with it (as well as RoboCop 2 and Total Recall for example, both also released that same year, must be a 1990 thing or something). So perhaps my strong liking of DH2 is indeed based on nostalgia. Whatever the case might be, I also just happen to think it's a great action movie overall.

At least 4 had better "buddy" camaraderie even though the template was well blown up at that point.

What are you complaining about? Bates said that DH3 was a discarded LW script. It appears that he was talking about it as a discarded LW 4 script while I mistakenly said three... Which is really just splitting hairs really.

Dude, yes! Renny Harlin was in a particularly mean-spirited phase when he made this and Cliffhanger, there's some ultra violence in there and I ****ing love it. Always have, I had this flick on rotation when I was a kid, along with the original of course. My family got sick of watching them

Die Hard 2 is a blast and it’s a staple for me during the holiday season. Die Hard is the best action movie of all time so yeah, it’s hard to live up to the original but it’s so much fun. 3 is also great. 4 is whatever and I haven’t seen 5.

I've gotta say that I enjoyed the unrated cut of 4 a LOT the last time I watched it. The movie's still this patchwork of jumbled editing and dubbing either way but it really does feel a bit more Die Hardy as a result. Pity it ditches a couple of my favourite lines in the process but you can't have everything, it'd sure be sweet if they got Wiseman in to supervise a more polished 'final cut' for the (eventual) UHD.

I am reposting this for no other reason that it being awesome (spoilers, NSFW, etc etc):
