I have one of the teaser banners in storage. I bought it off eBay around 2008. It's a massive 8ft beast! I have a single sided print of it used as a background for one of the movie's props I own.

That's awesome....
I bet that poster is not hard to come by these days. If you ever want to sell it, shoot me a pm.

Do you own many props from the film? I wish I got in on the J. Peterman life vest a while back.

Will do!

I own a few things.

The lifejacket is the biggest, but I also have one of the A deck door plaques, a mirrored Southampton ticket, and carpet sections from the dining room, Rose's cabin, the 1st Class Lounge, and the D Deck reception room. I also have a complete reproduction set of Rose's life pictures made from the original photos.

This is at the top of my list of 4K releases. I really hope it’ll arrive for its 25th anniversary (hard to believe it’s been that long… saw this in theaters twice at the age of 10). Cameron can take a brief break from Avatar to approve this

So, I read reports online that it will be released next year in 4K. I even see a listing here as well. Has this been confirmed yet?

No confirmation yet, just speculation since it's the 25th anniversary. But since the BD was released on the 15th anniversary and the 4K restoration work/theatrical HDR grade is already done, all James needs to do is regrade for home video so next year for the 25th would be perfect. Hopefully another Dolby Cinema re-relase as well.

You answered your own question. They need James Cameron's approval.

That was a typo it was supposed to say don’t I found this out that a few of his films he doesn’t have to sign off on remasters

This film was brought up at dinner. I was like, “surely it’s hot to be on the horizon”.

Then I mumbled “Cameron”

And that was that.

I would love for this to come out in 4K. The blu-ray still looks pretty damn good.

I watched Titanic about a million times when I was a kid, nearly wore out my VHS. And while I think the melodramatic writing in the first half of the film is...not the best (there's some really cringey lines), the second half (like post-iceberg) is an absolute masterclass in action/adventure filmmaking.

The Terminator and Aliens are still probably my two favourite James Cameron films, but Titanic will always hold a special place for me. I remember going to see it in theaters in 1997 with my entire family and I fell in love with it immediately. Also helped that I was obsessed with the Titanic (and basically any disaster story) when I was a kid. Fond memories of this film for sure.

You just described my experience as well! I got A's in history that year due to the 100% on test, projects and exams I got for Titanic history as a middle teenager. Averaged out to 85 for the whole History year subject. What I can't recall is if the movie viewing preceded my interest or the other way. I think I was just always into Titanic history.

Saw the film at the theatre with mum, dad and brother. Felt like I shouldn't like it as much as I did due to the earlier part of melodramatic love story. But I thought the last half of the movie was one of the best 90 mins in cinematic history, quite honestly.

Other movies are more perfect taken as a whole. But from the love scene onwards it's pretty much the best chunk of one (otherwise flawed) film ever. Certainly the best disaster content in terms of execution and impact.

I love hearing stories like this. It warms my heart (of the ocean) that other people had such a similar experience. Truly a defining moment of my childhood. I mean, it was also the biggest movie ever at the time it came out and certainly lots of people feel the same way we do, but as for being a Titanic nerd, yeah man it's been a lifelong obsession.

Another thing that's haunting to me is seeing the deterioration of the wreck since its discovery and how it's slowly being eaten away. Eventually it'll be nothing more than a pile of rust on the ocean floor and that makes me sad.

It's very explainable. The director. But, hopefully, Disney gets in Cameron's ear and requires him to approve all the Fox/Disney property under their banner. Greasing the wheels for Avatar sequel reshoot and promotional funding, perhaps...

As this title would be a high Disney seller on the format.

Next year is the 25th anniversary, plus Avadah 2 is coming out. Even with El Cameroon dragging his feet these are prime opportunities for tie ins/cross exposure. If it doesn't happen next year on 4K it doesn't happen at all, JC just doesn't give a shit.

Given that Cameron is currently working with Disney on his Smurf films I think they’d be far more able to insist that Cameron takes the time to approve remasters. Best case scenario they get Aliens, The Abyss, Trues Lies, Titanic and Avatar remastered in 4K for Disney+ and UHD as promotion for Avatar 2
