I'm so glad that you pointed this out. What would the forum do without you?

There are a lot of animated films on 4K right now. You should watch a few to answer your question.

Indeed. I think all of the Despicable Me/Minions titles look great on UHD vs SDR. I was also impressed by Ice Age 5074345 (or whichever one was the last one).

Personally I think Cars 3 is the best looking animated movie in 4K. Not very colorful and vibrant for the majority of it, but that works cause there’s an almost photorealistic and natural feel to it. Texture particularly is stunning.

I'm very worried this will have a newer botched audio remix like the newest Disney trend.

The current BD's track is fairly powerful.

Somebody with sway in the industry needs to let Disney know this is unacceptable.

It's def coming on 4K right? The reason why I asked is cause a poster said that BB took the pre-order page off.

Colors will be deeper and rich looking. The sound on Blu is Awesome but to hear this in Atmos/DTS:X will be SWEET. But Disney with its -0-db maximum sound level STINKS. They must go +3db for the home theater...

Was in a Dolby Cinema today and got really excited because I thought I was about to see a preview for The Incredibles 2 but instead it was for Wreck-It-Ralph 2.

Anyway, I fully expect the audio on this to be flat as heck but I'm going to get it regardless.

it's not just DHV setting the volume lower, it's the reequalizing of all the sound elements to a neutered 'middle ground'

Two Brad Bird movies getting 4K releases this year! I knew it, God exists.

The funny thing is The Incredibles was finished on a DI scan, but IMDb doesn't say it was finished on a 2K or a 4K scan. But Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was shot on film and was finished on a 4K DI scan.

Other than that, I'm adding both of these to my collection soon enough since both Incredibles and Ghost Protocol are some of my favorite movies of all time.

All that's left is both The Iron Giant and Tomorrowland in 4K!

Did I miss something? Has this been officially announced, or even unofficially "all-but-confirmed"?

It's CG animation. 2K is a cast-iron certainty. It wasn't "scanned" as there was nothing to, y'know, "scan", but 2K is the ultimate resolution that the movie was rendered and graded in.

I'm fairly certain Pixar hasn't started rendering in 4K yet. Doing so would be very expensive and take a lot of time. I don't think the technology is quite there yet for an animation studio that averages 1-2 films a year to fully render a film in 4K.

The technology is there, the time is not. Sometimes they just don't feel that it's truly worth it. The director of Coco had this to say on the twitters:

Quote:
We’ve done tests and don’t see enough of a visual benefit to render at 4K. The Coco 4K HDR looks incredible.

Pixar should do it's own in-house transfer, not the peons at Disney Home Video.

Wondering the same thing. It's no longer on BestBuy.com and the link in the OP is no longer valid.

That’s what I meant :P The technology isn’t there for it to be done on the timescale Pixar needs.
