I had to double down last year as I didn't know that there was going to be a separate 4K set let alone a 4K set altogether.

As has been stated many times, the 4k set includes Blu-ray's. The Blu-ray set includes DVD's... just like before.

No one knew about the S1 4k set. You weren't alone.

These mystery releases by Netflix are just plain weird from a marketing perspective.

I feel like Netflix doesn't want to release these, hence the lack of advertising minus the Target catalogs. It's as if they are contractually obligated to release them, which seems odd given their medium.

Who knows though, I don't know. This time around I'm going to wait for the prices to drop before buying. i can tell by Season 1 these aren't going anywhere!

Cut to: oh crap, they were LIMITED!!
[Show spoiler]

EDIT: Oh, man, looking at the thread for the Blu-Ray set, this is most likely not a Season 1 deal of overstock. Well, I'll take my chances.

It sounds like the S2 release stock will be a lot more limited than S1. This may indicate that Netflix and Target don't want a repeat of last time and potentially won't be as quick to lower the pricing.

It’s more like, “We’ve tapped out our customer bases, how are we going to generate more money from this title so we cover our production cost? Damnit we have to release it on physical media because no one will buy a streaming copy since they already subscribe to us.”

"Who the hell still uses DVDs is beyond me." Seniors and others who are on a fixed income are not real enthused about upgrading to another format. DVDs allow them to experience the newer movies that they would otherwise have to wait for to show up on cable. And if they are on a tight budget, cable is not an option.

So did this set get delayed or cancelled? Not showing any Target stores will have this available tomorrow.

Target's system is pretty unreliable when it comes to the release date of Stranger Things discs.

Poor argument. If they were truly on a tight budget they wouldn't be buying movies at all. At this point you really have to go out of your way to avoid Blu-ray.

I see it with the seniors I deal with every day. I've even offered to buy a couple of them a cheap blu-ray player but they were content with DVDs. Many of them still use CRT tvs. The market for DVDs will exist for a few more years.

One of my clients many years ago was still using VHS. He refused to upgrade to DVD much less blu-ray. He had a huge wall of VHS tapes and CRTs were everywhere in his house. He told me he would go to pawn shops and buy up VCRs so if one broke and couldn't be repaired he would have a spare. There were about 10 VCRs stacked up in his basement.

Perhaps the 4K version had less copies made? And is more rare than the blu-ray.
