They're surprisingly comparable. This show still has a lot of the same atmosphere, good artwork (for TV cartoon standards), decent writing, and most of the mysteries actually work well in the 45 minute format. The episodes are a lot of fun. The animation isn't quite as good as Where Are You, and there are more obvious goofs, but other than that, the show is a memorable continuation. It's a lot better than what came afterword. Keeping Nicole Jaffe as Velma was also a huge plus over later incarnations.

So are they going to fix the intro and remove that crappy chopped up intro on the dvd sets and add the guest stars back in?

Strange thing about the Addams family is they have the 60s cartoon on dvd!

It’s on Amazon and Boomerang in HD too, even the so called third season.
Scooby doo where are you season 3 was called that on it's first broadcast. It was part of the scooby's laff-a-lympics block of cartoons and didn't have a intro or ending as they just used one intro for the whole block. When time came to air reruns they needed a intro so they just slapped the scooby doo show intro and ending on it! It's cheaper then making a new intro. So yes it is the 3rd season (just a few years later.) Funny thing is the boomerang streaming service has them under scooby doo show! Oops.

I don't consider that to be Where Are You's third season just because some of the episodes originally aired with its title sequence. I consider the 40 Scooby-Doo Show episodes to be its own series, even if they didn't air under that title until syndication in 1980.

Sadly I think that if Warner had actually cared about releasing this episode back when they released the animated Addams Family set, they could’ve secured the rights. Sadly it looks like that ship has sailed now.

It's likely that the TV series was a different legal beast altogether. Warner may not have even needed to secure any clearance to it if HB owned all rights to the adaptation, but their appearance in Scooby-Doo was handled differently. Josie & the Pussycats was probably in a similar situation. Just a total guess on my part.

It's also possible that Warner has been clearing the rights to these episodes over the last several years. I doubt they suddenly cleared all eight at once, unless they were willing to pay more since these were the only episodes they had to worry about this time.

I actually do think these were all cleared at once. I don’t think any attempt was made over the past several years. The series was only just added to Boomerang, and it was the same old 15 episodes, yet most were HD masters. These agreements must be extremely recent or I would have expected them to be included in the Boomerang additions.

I do have faith that Wednesday's Missing will be cleared eventually. Just give it time. It's probably just more expensive for Warner to clear right now (if not outright impossible) because of the new movie coming out.

If they’re not prepared to pay now for the 50th anniversary of Scooby, I don’t see them doing it later on. Especially faced with the idea of releasing an “almost” complete series, I would think they’d either foot the bill or postpone the release. The fact that they’re releasing this now says to me that that episode doesn’t stand a hope in hell of getting any kind of release any time soon.

I'm probably just going to get the DVD with the missing episodes. I'm not the biggest Scooby fan. On the other hand, buying the Bluray could help get more H-B titles on Bluray! Maybe.

Yes, this is superb news. Just placed my pre-order. Hopefully, we will be getting the original Scooby Doo, Where Are You very soon.

If you go that route, just be warned that you’ll have 8 episodes sourced from HD restorations and another 15 forever looking sub-par in comparison.

Come on, get the Blu-Ray

this is big news! I'll definitely get this but I'm hoping also for the original. Scooby Doo Where Are You, Avatar, and Batman are the trifecta of animated series, the last two are on blu ray, hopefully this next one will.

I just hope that it actually happens instead of releasing this and ignoring everything else like with Pokemon Indigo league blu ray.

23 of 24 are in the Blu-ray set.

There is only 1 episode not included, "Wednesday is Missing". How appropriate.

Hopefully this sells well for more Scooby Blu-rays. I need Zombie Island, Witches Ghost, and Alien Invaders on Blu-ray. I also wouldn't mind getting Boo Brothers on Blu-ray, just because I have a soft spot for it.

They’re releasing this now because it’s the 50th anniversary of the franchise. The press release itself mentions that WHV wanted to release a lot of rare Scooby-Doo content on disc in time for that. They probably could’ve gotten Wednesday’s Missing cleared eventually, but then they couldn’t capitalize on the anniversary.

Also, for the longest time, these new eight episodes also didn’t “stand a snowball’s chance in hell” of being released, and I’m frankly surprised that they ever got cleared. Even TVShowsOnDVD.com predicted that they episodes would “never see disc.” Also, Wednesday’s Missing might be the most well-known episode of the show, and one of the most popular in the franchise. It will get cleared eventually.

I'm just curious is there a link to the press release?

I agree, though its a shame because the Addams Family episode is one of my favorites out of this series. Nevertheless I will definitely be picking this up.
