This show is superb. They better not pull a My Adventures With Superman and actually bring this out on Blu.

Only thing that really bugged me was the character they called Harley Quinn. Know (unfortunately predictably) that people would complain about gender swapped Penguin but she at least still acted like Cobblepot. This character on the other hand was such an oddly serious character that it genuinely felt like they made another character and just slapped Harley's name on it.

But that's the only quibble in this show. The rest just shows that hiring actual comic writers like Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka goes a LONG way in making the show well written. While there was an overarching story (and a phenomenal one about Harvey Dent and his slow decent into corruption and madness), the episodes still were well self-centered and not like an overlong movie at all.

Another thing I have to praise is Hamish Linklater's vocal tones for Batman. While sometimes he does feel a bit too uninterested, I gotta love how he brings back having Bruce and Batman with different voices. If there's one thing I feel that gets unappreciated lately in Batman adaptions it's making a clear difference between the billionaire and the vigilante. And dude was clearly taking inspiration from Conroy's early and best appearances while taking his own with it.

[Show spoiler]I do have to say though, if they do bring in Joker with the post credit scene, please for the love of God, do NOT go "muh society" with him and make him an actual clown. No overly serious/boring crazy. Let him make jokes and do things because he thinks it would be funny.
I didn't mind that they switched up Harley because of how often we see her, it's kinda nice getting a new spin on a character, and helps her stand out from the other Harleys

Thats not what happened correct in our history.

The Caped Crusader is portraying folks with an alternative spin on history.

And have you watched it?
Dang....Per Degaton? There's a character name I haven't heard spoken in ages. Next ones that should be mentioned are Virman Vundabar, Captain Nazi, and Baron Blitzkrieg

I am halfway through. Still like the show but I definetly don't like this Version of Harley Quinn.
I don't mind that she is asia, but the diffenrent costume and the serious way feels weird.
And is it just me or are most Female Charakteres of the Show a bit chubby

Yes, and it's great. I'm so down with the thickness. Even in my animation.

Quinn and Montoya are thick. Diversity in sizes is a good thing.

Alfred was originally a short thick dude in the beginning.
Not the tall slender version that has been the dominant look.

Everyone is quite boxy.

Hope they skip making Barbra Batgirl but if they have to I hope they make her an old school Batwoman. I think it would fit the show better.

I was thinking about that given how great the opening looks.

If this is early Batman, and they already showed the 3 possible sidekicks, I dont think they are going to make Barbara a Batgirl, especially with her working with her father all the time.
She would have to be that 60's librarian Barbara who led a separate life to be able to sneak out the house, without Jim knowing.

And it seems they're keeping close to the original mythos.
Batwoman is totally different from Barbara, and her side kick was Batgirl who was paired w/ Dick Grayson. Weve never seen the OG Bat-Girl in a TV show.

I dont think he should have sidekicks or spin-off inspired heroes until a little later.

Barbara is already being portrayed as a "Bat-Girl" with her actions, without wearing a costume. I hope that dont try to mimic BTAS.

My biggest minus comes from the bat voice that sound so forced and dialogue delivery feels same way very lazy somehow :/ bruce voice is better.

Also i like batman to be big and imposing, this isnt that really :/ feels more like pattison batman..
batman seems to get his ass whooped in every episode and get saved also too often... Maybe its that hes new at this but still i noticed it too much

Catwoman is excellent and most other character too were good. Idk about dent didnt like his look that much.
But stories are mostly interesting enough.

Animation style cant compete with btas imo

Btw were is all the lighter haired people lol

6,5 to maybe 7 /10

Watched the first 2 episodes last night and I'm really digging it. I thought Penguin was well done; like others said, it still feels like the Penguin we know- every bit as cold and ruthless, just gender-swapped. I liked that the Iceberg Lounge was a yacht and that she was a cabaret act in her own show. Felt it was a nice little detail that hinted toward her vanity. It wasn't really explored in the episode, but I quite dig the idea of almost a mirror version of Poison Ivy- someone who's not the stereotypical definition of sexy, but still sees themselves as beautiful and/or will kill anyone who may point out their flaws.

The Clayface episode was really well done too, and made what is, by comparison, the "less interesting" version of him quite compelling. He was creepy and every bit as threatening as his big monstrous form. I would totally watch a live action version of this iteration- someone like Matt Reeves could easily make a sort of creepy, uncanny valley serial killer thriller where you never quite know who or where he is at any given time. A character actor like Doug Jones or (if he wasn't playing Alfred), Andy Serkis would be a great choice.

I quite like the cast. I think Hamish Linklater is doing a great job as a grounded, retro Batman. Very subtle, but one that I could see evolving as the seasons go on, both vocally and physically. He still feels quite agile and capable, but like others have mentioned, not quite the polished crime fighter he eventually becomes, so I'm excited to see how he grows throughout the seasons as he, presumably, gets more training and more gadgets. I like that, at least these first two episodes, are also focusing on Montoya. It's nice to see her get some love, and it'll be interesting to see play out, since she's almost taking on the Gordon role, at least so far. I love Gordon as much as the next guy, but I also love seeing when Batman makes connections in the GCPD other than him. That's why I liked Ellen Yin so much in The Batman. I think the voice actor for Alfred is doing great too.

My only real gripe with the show isn't even really with the show, but the title sequence. It's not even their fault, but the BTAS opening title is so iconic and such a great encapsulation of what the show is that this one felt rather lackluster. It's still seemingly a good encapsulation of what this version is- the retro detective, etc., but it's missing that oomph for me. I may even actually skip it on future episodes, whereas I watch the BTAS one every time even to this day.

I think what makes that Clayface (and even some of the other episodes work) was there was a mystery. Theyre doing detective stories with Batman, Renee, or Barbara, as the sleuths. More Noir than even BTAS.

I like that Batman isnt OP and one punching dudes during combat.
This is a version of Batman that wasnt some ninja and all martial arts expert.
You see him just using a punching bag to train vs some special room with mannequins giviing him a digital readout of his punching power or hand speed.

I dont know who started the idea that Batman doesnt "use" magic.
There was an episode on one of the animated series where he did invoke a spell against I think was the evil kid w/ the cat....(Klarion).
I dont see him studying magic, but this Han Solo "hocus pocus" attitude seems relatively "new". Yes, he'll team up w/ magic users since its not his expertise, but using talismans, vocal spells, or borrowed potions isnt out of his wheelhouse.
Im glad this version showed that he's not adverse to the practice and still enlisting mystical help. This is guy who was fighting aliens in the 50's.
Maybe its to make him have a "weakness" where he doesnt believe but respects something he doesnt delve into regularly. But if he's so smart and tactical he wouldn't diminish any type of threat to Gotham.....magic and/or science.

It seems like this Harley is influenced by Punch and Jewelee from Charlton comics.
They appeared in Suicide Squad:Hell To Pay.

I don't have any doubt they could give Batman and Robin a hand. They're also very good at figuring out who the alien is.

Boy, episode 3 was excellent. I really enjoyed that take on Catwoman, the ways Bruce's backstory was done, and the counseling aspect.
