1. Terminator 2
2. Terminator 3. Terminator 4 These are my favorite. I watched 3, 5 and 6 and I regret watching it. I hope there'll never be a Terminator 7 movie as there are plenty of bad movies as it is. |

If two more people on T2's side had posted earlier today T2 could have won.

Ah well. T2 is still #1 for me. It rejuvenated the franchise and kept it rolling for 4 more sequels (albeit not so great ones, but enjoyable), a TV show, an attraction at Universal Studios (T2 3D), video games, and of course the most controversial 4K blu ray release of all time right here on this site! A good Arnie T-800 is the one you want to root for but the evil T1 Arnie was badass as well.

They're both monumental achievements in cinema, but it's undeniable T1 is the work of a burgeoning master filmmaker with two exceptional sequences (the police station massacre and the entire climax starting with the truck chase), T2 on the other hand is a well established master filmmaker giving a masterclass on all levels. But the whole "first one is always the best" mentality is always going to be a thing for a lot of people. It's the same reason why Star Wars beat The Empire Strikes Back in the SW ranking game

There's no denying the groundbreaking nature of either of them. Especially how Cameron managed to get so much out of the ridiculously small budget he was working with. T2 is just a better crafted film IMO, but that's partially down to his own development as a filmmaker and partially down to the massively expanded budget. I guess it mostly depends if you prefer a raw and dirty B-movie or a blockbuster with a much larger scope. It's essentially like a cinematic equivalent of pitting Led Zeppelin I against Physical Graffiti. Same people, similar ingredients, vastly different results.

Disagree on all three. Especially on ESB and T2 (contrary to those 2, Aliens was a very different beast to its predecessor, making it harder to compare).

That was close. Wow. My full ranking:
Terminator 2: Judgment Day The Terminator Terminator: Salvation Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Terminator: Dark Fate & Terminator: Genisys (I think they're both equally terrible) |

I definitely rank Alien as the best of that series, but T2 and TESB as the best of those. Aliens often feels a bit "cheap" compared to the bleak majesty and meticulous craftsmanship of Alien, and framing it in 1.85:1 was a big mistake.
