There are a few different methods. Jose uses vinyl decals and heats them so that they shrink around the edges. He work is flawless---no wrinkles or anything.

Another method is to have a print shop print a design directly on the metal, but that usually means a more matte finish and the edges need to be painted because it is not possible to print on such small, irregular surfaces.

I have bought some of Jose's work and highly recommend him if you want a glossy finish.

Hey mate, sorry for the delay -- I hadn't checked this thread for a while. It's been a while since I bought a steel from Jose; I usually buy full slips from him. If I remember correctly they're around 35 Euro.

Thanks for the response, and exactly how does the process work? Paypal etc and where does one submit an order, and does he let you have input on how looks?

I would private message him here or on Instagram. Payment is through Paypal and he is very collaborative in the design of slips and SteelBooks. I will add that there is a bit of a waiting period as he finishes other orders, but check with Jose and see how things are tracking.

I'm curious as to how these are made. Is it a vinyl layer on top of the steel or is it a paint? Or a combo of both? Is there a matte finish possible?

I saw the Gremlins 2 ones and that's a title I would be interested in, something to better pair with the old Zavvi one of the first film (outside of debossing, of course). Hopped on Cinematerial and found a 2011 screening poster which has a pop through effect similar to the re-release poster of the first film.
