I really, really enjoyed this movie. I didn't expect it to be one of my favorites of the year. But it is.

Yeah it was much better than I thought a Blomkamp directed Turismo would be. I only watched it as my boy is car mad but ended up really enjoying it.

Surprisingly heartfelt, and honestly one of the best looking and sounding films this year. My system got a workout with the Atmos track (streaming version).

Not the best movie, actually it's awkward/too overdramatic at times, and it didn't need to be 135 minutes long, but they were a couple of moments that saved it for me. so overall, it's decent

Neill Blomkamp is a filmmaker I unapologetically fanboy over. Even if some of his more experimental/weird stuff doesn't land for most -- just his overall visual style, his attitude, and his singular focus, still works for me. There aren't a lot of filmmakers in his age bracket working within the blockbuster format, that is 100% all in on himself and refusing to let studios have any say on what he does.

Still... I don't care for racing games. Despite the fact I do like cars. But I couldn't tell you the first thing about 'Gran Turismo'. I wasn't even really going out of my way to see this film even with as much as I like Blomkamp, mainly because I just do not care about game adaptations like this one.

With that being said, I watched the 4K/Dolby Vision version of this on Netflix, and came away genuinely surprised -- beyond my fandom for Blomkamp -- and genuinely enjoyed this film from start to finish. There are elements of this movie that actually feature Blomkamp at his absolute best as a director so far. The actors are all perfectly cast in their roles. The drama and racing scenes are directed with unabashed confidence. One thing I really liked about this film compared to most other blockbusters, is that Blomkamp allowed the more emotional moments of this film to linger, instead of being followed up with a joke or some circumventing plot device just minutes later. Which is something a hell of a lot of modern blockbuster films suffer from nowadays.

It's also a testament to Blomkamp's idiosyncratic visual style, that this film, despite not being of sci-fi, fantasy, or horror genres -- still looks distinctly Blomkamp in all of the ways that make him stand out from his peers. That's how you know a filmmaker has talent that can't be replicated.

I plan on picking up the Steelbook for this from Best Buy in the next day or two. I'm really looking forward to watching it again and adding it to my collection.

If Blomkamp ever wanted to go back down the video game adaptation route again, I think his visual style would be perfect for something like 'Metal Gear Solid'.

Bought not 1, but 2 Gran Turismo t-shirts from GameStop. They are on clearance for $4.75.

I like the graphic on the left sleeve. So nice that I had to get one more.

Would you want one? I got an extra.
