I thought this was a fun sci-fi adventure movie and I'll be getting it when it comes out! Wish Disney would include the IMAX scenes on the 4K disc but that ship seems to have sailed long ago.

I can understand including the IMAX version on Disney+ as an incentive, but I don't understand keeping it off physical media. The pool of consumers abstaining from Disney+ because they still buy physical media, must be infinitesimal compared to consumers abstaining from physical media because they've bought Disney+.

Lightyear is painfully a 2022 movie, but it will still make you feel old:
A. Sox emits 1995 computer sounds more than once. B. Michael Giacchino basically has to rescore everyone's favorite Up (2009) scene. He scored Up about fifteen years ago. [Show spoiler]

1.90:1 IMAX scenes on Disney+. 24 minutes and 27 seconds calculated while watching it including the end credits scene. There are some cool transitions.

There should be a Best Buy-exclusive steelbook. There is also a German release which is probably identical to the Zavvi one, but with German language on the paper slip.

Just watched this film on Disney +. I think this is the first movie I've ever seen where the opening text actually made me cringe.
[Show spoiler] What's worse than a self-indulgent statement? One that actually ruins the whole immersion before the film even properly begins. The more I think of this film existing in the Toy Story Universe, the less everything makes sense. |

... the text crawl comes after the Disney and Pixar studio logos! It should come before it. Now it's officially "part of the movie" rather than something to tell us before what he watched. In my mind it makes it seem like Andy then also saw this text crawl. If we had to have it, it would've been cooler if it appeared before with no music behind it, and all on the same screen (rather than having each line fade out before the next one). It's a small edit, but it goes a long way when it comes to any immersion they still wanted to maintain. |

I didn't think to mention that US-exclusives are out of reach for me, and yes in the meantime I saw that Germany and Italy have the same design however they are just BD. Would be great if the 4K/BD comboy won't be excluvise to zavvi and Best Buy.

Pixar produced a 2.39:1 fixed aspect ratio version and a shifting aspect ratio version with 2.39:1 and 1.90:1. Pixar adjusted and re-rendered scenes in the 1.90 ratio.

Stunning 4K Dolby Vision presentation with nice use of taller AR in "IMAX" sequences. (great transitions!)
I LOVE the look of night scenes in this; the current trend is to make them as dark and deep as possible, so it's refreshing to see night shots - even if it's not live action film - that are perfectly clear, brighter than usual and pleasantly contrasty. |

Nice animation, but that is not a shocker nor is it worthy of praise any longer... So the movie itself needs to work on the strength of its story and characters... Nope, sorry this did not do it for me. I wanted to see a Buzz Lightyear movie that was fun and ya know ABOUT HIM. It's amazing how Pixar sucked the charisma and heroics out of him so he can be second fiddle to the other characters that he was saddled with... Point blank, I don't give a loud emphasized gold crusted FV<K about "Hawthorne" no matter the generation. That was not the character I was invested in, but wow was this movie just swinging on her stripper pole while making Buzz an incompetent schmuck that needs his hand held all the time. Then the big reveal showed up and i was just done.
This was the movie that made Andy a fan of Buzz Lightyear? Hmm, something doesn't really gel here... it's almost like the creatives at Pixar just didn't give a rat's ass about consistency and continuity. You make these characters of Alisha and Izzy Hawthorne yet not a single toy or marketing for such a wow character who was so awesome they made Buzz look like an utter tool, in any of the Toy Storys.... hmmmmm. Yeah, nah just another forgettable low tier Pixar(Disney) product that did neither Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story any favors. Origin story my ass. P.S. that "kiss" was a big buncha hyped up nothin. Media made oversensitive and moronic monkeys out of both sides of the fence. Last edited by jess1581; 08-05-2022 at 09:40 AM. |
