I still have no idea what they really mean. But, we can assume they can at least be used to show relative sales between the two formats.
HD DVD obviously was leading BD in sales three months ago. And the chart numbers were ~6000 to ~600. Now they are even. So, we can conclude that something about sales is now equal, when it wasn't. And the critical point was that HD DVD fans kept pointing to the charts as proof. And that brought them to my attention. But, the first time I saw it, I also saw the trend line. At that point fanboys figured they could claim a logarithmic result, that small changes in BD sales would lead the large swing at the high rank numbers, but that BD would plateau well below the king format. Naturally, all they want to talk about now is how some people ridiculed the charts before. As if that somehow now makes the CHARTS suspect. Is that what it now comes down to? People shouldn't buy BD because some person on a board flipflopped on some data? Truelly sad. Gary |

People, we are on the edge. Forget local stores for a moment and buy all your BD movies from amazon.com (just like the several hd dvd fans are doing it!)

I have always said the averages are meaningless so I will stick with that
![]() That said, the #1 HD disc does sell more than the #2 etc. So, there is some validity at least in the 'top 10' list. Also, count me in on watching HD DVD supporters squirm as the numbers flip over regardless since they did claim that they are meaningful ![]() |

Seeing the way Amazon has stood up as fanboys of HD-DVD, why would anyone buy from them? At this point does it really matter what their rankings are? Besides, even with the 10% discount, they aren't that competitively priced when you compare them to www.deepdiscountdvd.com and factor in the free shipping.

![]() Besides, it gives me pleasure watching those HD DUD fanbois squirm and come up with excuses as the Amazon rankings flip over to the Blu side. ![]() Last edited by GoldenRedux; 01-10-2007 at 02:44 PM. |

HD Game Database
A few weeks back they set themselves up as a competitor to thedvdwars. Their numbers are updated every half hour, and have various top N choices, and histories. Gary |

It's been ahead of HD DVD in the rankings for the top 10 since 11:30am today.
The next milestone will for it to appear above HD DVD averaged for a day, and hence actually show up on thedvdwars.com that way. The trend line was clear. But, the post Xmas DVD buying blip seems to have moved up the crossover. Gary |

![]() Still. Very close. Just wait until the missing WB and all those new BD exclusive titles go pre-order. Gary EDIT: Back on top. I expect there will be quite a lot of switching back and forth before BD takes over permanently. Last edited by dialog_gvf; 01-11-2007 at 12:19 AM. |

Your link is borked.
An interesting exercise I hadn't done till yet though, is to go to the intended site and do their full on list of all 340 titles. Look at what titles are "scraping the bottom of the barrel" so to speak on each format. It'd be useful to have them separate out released titles and preorders as well. I'd like to see the top ten preorders and top ten released titles for each. |
