thought this was interesting: but how good are all those cables that come with the elite? and who needs composite and component cables? and an hdmi cable? are they just trying to stuff more stuffing into the turcky?

For the "Elite" to even touch PS3, it must add to that 479$ price the following:
1. Free Internet / Online gaming (add $50 annual fee) 2. Built-in Wifi (add $100 for MS official Wifi addon) 3. Built-in HD Player (add $199 for HD-DVD player addon) 4. Built-in memory cards reader (add $20) 479 + 50 + 100 + 199 + 20 = 848 $848 vs $599. I suppose you could subtract the HDMI cable MS provides (tho its only 1.2) - minus lets say $30 = $818 Hmmmm.... 360 "Elite" $818, and PS3 60GB $599 .... Hmmm.. 219 dollars difference hmmmm which one better value.... hmmm Why is this even a subject... *sigh J. |

The article just takes the options of the system into account, not what they do. As "nobody" said, don't forget processing power. Even after the article makes them even w/ respect to the features of both, the power of the PS3 puts it ahead. So the PS3 has about 10x the processing power of the 360 elite and its games can go on BD discs, and it's just $8 more in the end for it? That's a no-brainer.

I don't know about "10 times more power" but I can't be the only one that's noticed that the one thing MS rarely touches on is the power of the two systems. MS claim they can do anything the PS3 can do, but they stop short of saying the 360 is more powerful.
Seems to me, from all the various sites that know what they are talking about that it is now a given that the PS3 IS the more powerful of the two. It's just down to developers to tap that power. Microsoft will continue to play catch up with PS3 as best they can; frankly they've been doing it since before the PS3 was launched! They use a pattern that is now painfully transparent: they criticise the PS3 for one of its features, then a couple of months later release a patch or add on that enables the 360 to do the same thing!! ![]() On aesthetics, the 360 looks like plastic, the PS3 doesn't just look great; it has presence. |

The more I think about it, I think that is what they said when they first debuted the PS3, with the two HDMI ports. I think they claimed it to be 10 times more powerful than a typical PC, and probably different for the 360, but I remember them showing a graph that had the processing rate of the PS3 compared to the 360, and it was multiples more.

Well too let you guys know.... For now anyways... Xbox 360 outdoes the ps3 in almost every way.... The controller for xbox has less problems and i find better especially in the games i play. Xbox is far superior in perfomance and speed then the ps3 for now... the ps3 hardware is better but no games for the next 2 years is gonna even get close too use that power so xbox will kick ass in that department.... Play Call of duty 3 or Oblivion for both systems and you will see xbox 360 kicks ass compared too ps3... also the menus and online capabilities and what you can get for free online is way better on 360... Only downfall of the xbox 360 is it doesnt come with hd-dvd but for 200$ (compared too 500 for toshiba's hd-dvd player) you still cant beat that.... but its not better then blu-ray... (for now) since i did read that hd-dvd is comming out with a bigger storage disc then blu-ray soon.... and Since the porn industry and more sci-fi movies and tv shows are going hd-dvd.... i think hd-dvd is gonna get great again. But in overall including games you can get for the systems in the next 48 months... Xbox 360 is better. As for cords.... the crap the guy said you have too buy compared too ps3.... that's more bs.... Yes you need too pay for online play... but WOW 50 bucks.... common... the online play for xbox360 is the best... even better then Online PC play... better options and better voice too voice and better streaming so less lag... and i dont use wifi.... never have and i think thats a waste of money... Yes hd-dvd player is worth it... so 399.99 for 20gig(with 3 games which the ps3 online comes with 1 if lucky) 360 +179.99 for hd-dvd player and built in memory card? i have the HD so no use for that.... so its still 50% less in price then PS3 60gig. So.... xbox360 is best (again FOR NOW...) wait about 2 years... thats what ps2 took before it got too its max potential.

Jesus H Christ on a Popsicle stick, give it a rest already people....
As the owner of both a Premium 360 and a PS3, I can say that both are fine systems, worthy of praise. Each has their own strengths and inherent weaknesses. The PS3 is an unbelievable bargain for the price, if that is what you are looking for. If I'm "Joe Gamer" with a 27" 4:3 SDTV, Blu-Ray means diddly to me. Same can be said for Elite's HDMI port. Content is what will always sell systems. Has been that way since the dawn of gaming. While I think Sony was smart to put a Blu-Ray drive in the PS3, I wonder how many more systems they would have sold if they would have offered a non-BD equipped one for $299-399-ish. For sure many of us have purchased a PS3 as a game & BD player, the BD sales numbers suggest that many are not using them for BDs. Factor in people like me who have purchased 29 BDs since getting my PS3 on 12/1/06, and the numbers dwindle even more. Don't get me wrong, I think that the PS3 is going to be a force to reckon with and that BD will continue to lead HD DVD in the next-gen format fracas, but this posturing I see going on here is dubious at best. I see it from both sides of the coin. People *****ed and complained, wanted HDMI and a bigger HDD. MS gives it to them and then they still *****. Of course, the way MS implemented it was wrong. If they were smart and wanted to "grab Sony by the balls", they would have released the Elite at $400, dropped the price of the Premium to $300, and the Core to $200-$250. This would give them a system at each price-point. The Core and Premium could slug it out with the Wii, and the Premium could cater to the more 'ardent' gaming fans, and for $50-$100 more, it could possibly attract those Wii casual gamers looking for something a little more upscale. MS has already shown by the price gouging on the new HDD that they really don't have our best interests at heart, and that is sad, because when they do, we tend to buy much more. I'm a hell of a lot more inclined to purchase the bigger HDD and 2 games at say $200, than I am just the HDD at $180. I understand that MS is trying to grow the Premium/Elite into an IPTV TiVO-esqe box, but I'm a DirecTV sub, and will never purchase movies over XBL in a compressed/neutered state. I'll save that $180 on the bigger HDD and pick up a Wii instead when I can find one locally. Also, while it (IMHO) is of little consequence for gaming, the fact that the HDMI port on the Elite is not 1.3 compatible is completely moronic. MS fumbled big-time on this one, and did nothing but to show that MS isn't postured any better than Sony is. The next 3-4 quarters will really show what is going to happen. With Sony losing a lot of their exclusive titles, they are really going to have to up the ante on those that they do have exclusives for. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been gaming for the better part of 3 decades now, and never in that time have I been more excited about the future than I am right now. Some killer titles will be released on all 3 platforms, XBL/XBLA is getting better, and Sony's HOME looks to take online gaming by storm later this year. Instead of bickering and fanboy-ing, I'm going to sit back and enjoy it all. Life is good fellas, let's bask in it, shall we? ![]() |

![]() For now Xbox 360 and PS3 is even, interms of graphics. Perhaps the PS3's true potential may be onlocked in time. However, It's first impressions that make or break a video game system that is based totally off graphics. Why is that MSFT has been constantly adding multimedia features in the Xbox 360? Because they know that HD games is no longer going to cut it, alone. In fact i beilieve Online Play is the sole reason why Xbox is so popular. It has nothing to do with graphics. No other console (right now) has an online service that even matches Xbox Live. It's also games themselves. PS2 lasted this long not because of graphics, but because of it's extensive library of games which are now very inexpensive, an play just the same as those "cost and arm and a leg" HD sequals on next gen consoles. Sony just thought out the PS3 a tad better than MSFT. They wanted to produce not just "Another Game console". They were more ambitious than that. they wanted PS3 to be the focal point for Home Entertaiment, and the trojan horse to the Blu-ray format. Which is why everything comes standard out of the box in the true 60GB PS3. But, MSFT's head start is starting to take it's toll. A larger game library for a console is definately a plus when it comes to value. Sad to say, but at this very moment, the Xbox 360 is the core gamer's dream come true. Not everyon is tecnologicaly advanced to know how Blu-ray is the true sucesssor to DVD, or even care. Do they know what WIFI is or even if they knew, how many know how to set up a wifi network? People in this forum probably, but what about all those noobs out there, pretty sure you know a lot of them. Bottom line is that if you don't know how to use the features, those feature are useless. Plus if grapfics is not an issue, then the true system that has more value to the average joe consumer is Xbox 360. In other word, Xbox 360 and PS3 have diffrent audiences. PS3 is for sufficticated technical elite, and die hard playstation fans. While Xbox 360 is for online gamers and the ignorant masses. Which will end up victorious in the end? who knows But Xbox 360 definately has the upper hand. Even though I never would buy one myself. The following was my personal conjecture as I have no proof to back my claims. You may object my point of veiw for your own if you wish. ![]() |

I agree with everything you said, but I would add a Third audience, Gamers who have both because both systems have games they like to play.

I'd still say the PS3 60 GB offers better overall value.
Simply put. |

Elite's HDMI is based only 1.2, so Elite dose not have capability pass DolbyTrueHD or DD+ signals.
Furthermore, Elite's HDMI's audio capability is restricted only standard DD, standard DTS, and linear PCM is only 2ch. |

If so, then this is utterly pathetic. Forget about Amir's blasphemous preachings on how Dolby Digital can be made to achieve "near lossless" or that kind of bullcrap. If it can't do hi-def lossless sound, then there would be no way that the XBOX 360 can beat the PS3 in sound quality. |
