Default Re:Narrator

Just ordered this. Hope this is the one with Attenborough commentary?

I bought the planer earth and seas of life dvd boxed set last year and hardly saw it as the non HD viewing was not very enjoyable. Sigh!!

I hope i can sell it now on craigslist or eBay....

Of course it is, it's the original BBC version of the documentary.

What does "BBC" stand for anyway? Why did they DUB out David Attenboro and replace his vocal with Sigourney Weaver's on the USA release? What other differences are there between the BBC and USA versions?

I can't wait for my copy to arrive. It is en route via "Royal Mail" (that really sounds humorous to me...I don't know why, but it does).

BBC stands for British Broadcasting Corporation. I believe it's the biggest if not one of the biggest companies in the UK. All of my Doctor Who (the best science-fiction TV show ever, born in the UK) DVD's are distributed by the BBC. They also run news (probably the most unbiased) and have a channel in the US (good for Monty Python). You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC

I don't think there's much of a difference between the UK and US versions other than the narraration (and I believe there is a US version that keeps the Attenborough narration). One version has an extra disc, I believe. Not sure which. I like David Attenborough.. I grew up with Jocqe Costough, or whatever his name is, and he had a strong English accent.

i also think theres like 40-55 mins cut off of the episodes in the USA version, i remember reading this somewhere but could be wrong.

My understanding is that the only difference from a content perspective between the US and UK BBC versions is a "Making of" fearurette for each of the episodes in the series (housed on the UK's extra disc). By all accounts the US Discovery Channel release has some cuts to the main episodes though.

I thought this was pretty funny as well. Not to mention that it was "dispatched" instead of "shipped" and your shopping "cart" is a "basket."

I've heard this as well, though I haven't watched mine yet. My roommate has the US version on HD DVD, so I can compare the runtimes.

The bonus disk has two more documentaries. One is called "Desert Lions" and the other is "Snow Leopards."

No lossless audio. Only soundtrack is Dolby 5.1 in English, which is ok. It would have been great to hear the theme in lossless though

As for the amount, I checked with a conversion tool the day I ordered it, but it came out to less (I think the exchange rate had changed slightly a few days after that). But yes, I just checked my bank account. I had one charge for the item and another for currency exchange.

do we know that the 1080p is not 1080i up-converted? has anyone un-checked 720p and 1080i in the PS3 menu to verify that we're getting raw 1080p?

I ordered mine at 25.5 pounds translates to about $39. Today it is listed for 20 pounds.

This is like $33. This is an amazing deal if there are more that does not have this.

Mine shipped

I ordered and received mine last week, took about 5 days (ordered Sunday, received Friday) to get all the way from England to me (El Paso, TX). Mine worked out to be $36.38, but today it's even cheaper! Using http://www.xe.com/ucc/ it comes out to be about $28.78.
What a STEAL! If you are on the fence about buying this, order it now! It's very well worth it!
