![]() Subwoofer placement in a room is the most important factor in affecting the quality of bass sound that you will hear. Read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes. This thread deals with placement of multiple subwoofers in a room. I will gurantee that it will either confuse you completely or bore you to death. ![]() ![]() Go to Post #2 in the thread. There are some diagrams on the best options for placing two subs in a room. Don't forget to post pictures. |

This is not an Acoustic Audio problem. Some speakers/subwoofers have none. Most subwoofers have a minimum amount. Poly-fill dampens the cabinet and makes the subwoofer sound slightly better. The cost is $10 or less. Anytime I open a sub or speaker, I add some to it without over filling it. There is no risk and it is cheap. It is recommended that you use the fire retardant kind.

Well, Pops, I picked one up - couldn't resist. Going to place it between my two couches, at the acute angle they make where they meet.
How easy is it to open it up? I might have to polyfill it up after seeing those pics. |

BD,
was there a significant change when you placed more poly-fill into the subwoofer? how did it sound compared to its original state counterpart? pray tell. oh, did you also add gasketing tape on the interior before you re-set your driver? id also like to try this mod actually. i see more people will succumb to this subwoofer. ![]() wait and see... |

I did not add gasketing tape or anything else at this point. The sub is still new and under warranty. Give me a few more months and I will tweak it to death. ![]() The sub is really a good value for people under a tight budget. Where else can you get a sub of this quality under $200 or under $100 for some models? |

thanks for the quick reply. will also be checking in on getting more polyfill if ever. i just considered it since we removed the driver out of its enclosure, and was wondering how that would affect the overall possibility of 'rattle' issues down the road. Quote:
of course dr. hsu's got a couple, but the amps are 100watts. ![]() |

If you are building a new sub or a sub that has no poly-fill, it is a good idea to spread them evenly on the interior surface and use very light glue. I prefer to use foam. In that case, the addition of poly-fill or foam makes a lot of difference in sound quality. I recently built a 15" subwoofer. I posted the details and pictures today in the Repairing & Building Subwoofers thread. It should be on page 10. There are also links in Posts #1 and #2 in that thread that you may find useful. Parts Express recently increased the prices of some of their drivers and amplifiers. Acoustic Audio subwoofers became a better bargain now than they were a few months ago. If I had an old subwoofer that needed an amplifier, I would probably be better off buying an Acoustic Audio subwoofer for parts. ![]() Last edited by Big Daddy; 03-31-2009 at 08:01 AM. |

thanks for the heads up. comparitively, the parts express version also is a tad more expensive. but then it makes you wonder, would you go ahead and fill it up with the more expensive brand and get it over with? or just 'settle' with the polyfill found in other stores.
![]() all in all, a good experiment is in order. maybe testing a subwoofer without additional poly inserts, vs one modified adding more poly inside of it, and measured with a SPL meter. sadly, my spl meters not with me. ![]() |
