General tips on eating food that I've found to help control weight:

- Drink plenty of water before eating, you'll eat less

- Eat real, unprocessed foods: stuff like eggs, meat, salad you know where that came from. Avoid processed foods like chips, hotdogs, poptarts etc.

- If you are bored, don't eat. it may be tempting, but chew gum instead.

- Don't drink, no alcohol. period.

I'm slimming down too.

I'm 6-1 and was a massive 249 pounds on May 8 when I started.

I was walking on a treadmill 6 x 30 minutes a week until it broke recently. Now I walk outside and play golf when I can (no cart).

I eat approximately 1,500 calories a day. I drink water, black coffee without sugar, and diet Canada Dry. So I don't waste any calories drinking.

One day a week - usually Saturday - I have a 12 inch pizza and three beers. The other six days I stick to my normal routine. I find that by rewarding myself for the other six days, I don't feel like I am missing out. Also, it reminds my body not to go into starvation mode (which happens if you go below 1200-1300 calories a day.

So I am down to 223 (26 pounds gone) in two months. Almost halfway to my target of 189 pounds (top of my ideal weight range).

I sometimes track things at this site www.sparkpeople.com

Things to avoid are:

Soda
Fad diets/anything that makes you feel that you are doing something out of the ordinary
Weight watchers - no point. If you really want to do this, just do it.

An iron will helps. Don't feel that you can't cheat, but remember your overall goal. It's relatively easy to lose 2-3 pounds a week, even with zero exercise. The hard part is making this a permanent change, and staying at your target weight when you get there (which you will).

Damn me and my eating habits though lol. If I could change that I would be set.
Sounds like we're in the same boat. I love me some P90X, thinking about ordering the other 6 routines, but I'll be darned if I can afford to eat the way they want you to. First off, I can't eat that much, and second it's sooo expensvie. Either way, I'm in the best shape now than I've been in a long while.

Yeah I'm not doing the nutrition guide. I know I should but my habits are so set in.

A friend of mine told me that to really take advantage of P90X you should take supplments too. I'm thinking of doing that.

I'm 6'3" and was 205lbs as of April 1. I started up the P90X routine and after finishing I dropped to 180lbs just in time to turn 30. I wasn't in any type of shape when I started, and could barely finish a workout. They are tough. I stuck with it though, every day, even if it was just to complete 30 minutes of the workout and it worked. It pretty much got rid of all the fat on my body. I didn't change my diet much other than keeping an eye on how many calories I take in which tends to be about 2300 a day. I have started taking multi-vitamins.

I'm starting the whole thing again, this time with the goal of putting on muscle and really hitting the weight routines harder.

For anyone that is on the fence about it, just do it. I practically have my entire office doing P90X now. It is a lot of fun.

Just stop thinking about that you are fat and everything is gonna work out, mentally in the most important thing.

look at me im not really skinny but im not fat and i eat all day, every hour i'm eating and i have 3 sisters believe me it's bad they are all good looking but they are always saying they are fat, duh typical females never confortable with what they got but what ever.

so they all ask me how come i eat so much and never get fat? easy i simply don't think about it and stay active all day everyday.

The secret to me is cutting back on sugar and drinking more water. I've done both of these things and I've lost 8 pounds over the last month. I wasnt fat in the first place, but I just wanted more definition. I work out regularly and I do at least 30 minutes of cardio 4 days a week. The killer though, is sugar. Sugar is evil.

and drink water! Lots of it. At least 8 fl oz a day, possibly more if you can. I used to detest drinking water...."it has no flavor!" was my excuse. I used to think soda and juice quenched my thirst, but in reality, all they did was make me even thirstier for more sugar-heavy liquids. Water will save your life.

How old are you? Could be your metabolism hasn't slowed down yet, or you're one of the lucky few whose metabolism never really will slow down.
I'm 6'2" and up until i was about 25 or 26 i weighed 165. Then one day i looked down and i weighed 225.
I'm 34 now and have gotten back down to 190. That's more like it.
I'd have a 6 pack if i could cut out the beer, but hey, gotta enjoy life sometimes.

wow....same boat here. I'm 5'6, 180. I hate being able to pinch an inch. Terrible feeling. There's a difference between being fat and being overweight, though. IMO.

I'm assuming you meant more than 8 fl oz a day. It's generally said to try to drink 8 - 8 oz cups a day, although that number has no medical reasoning behind it. I'm trying to cut down on the amount of diet soda I drink. I used to drink a 24 oz bottle in the morning and a 24 oz bottle in the afternoon but I'm cutting out the afternoon and just drinking water.

I was thinking the supplements were hocus pocus. That is where they were probably thinking they would be making the money from. If you try them and they make a difference let me know.

Strong work brother. Unfortunatelly for me I cannot do them every day. I work 24 hour shifts and there is no way I could do them while I am working. Usually if I am up all night the next day is shot too. So, overall I only do it an average of 4 days per week.

The amount of water they recommend drinking over a day has changed so many times I've lost count. My theory is that drinking water works to lose weight because if you are drinking water you aren't drinking something with calories in it. Most people walk around mildly dehydrated anyways cuz they don't drink enough water and drink caffinated beverages instead.

Plus it burns a few calories drinking it and distends your stomach making you feel fuller. You shed a few pounds that is normally water held in reserve, as your body knows to expect more.

I would guess that it burns the same amount of calories it takes to digest any beverage, there just aren't any calories in water to replace the ones burned. Funny thing is that I always feel more hungry when I drink water.

oh never knew we had a thread like this, ill share a lil bit

i used to weigh 400lbs(no my nickname isnt for my weight, although i got that from a lot of ppl who i knew irl + online).. i didn't eat like a pig honestly... i just never moved and either laid on the couch on my bed and if id go out with my pals we'd drive there and wherever we went we just chilled (needless to say i didnt go hang out with them when they were gonna play sports)

so anyhow my cousin moved back (he was away for a few years to "grow up") and forced me to go to the gym with him everyday for 1hr, 30mins on the treadmill and 30mins weight training

6 months later i was down to 290lbs, it got kinda slow here but 6months later i was down to 260lbs (that was 2 years ago) and it got really slow here with me quitting the regime and restarting it every few months
but now i weigh 180lbs and im 6'3", muscles are starting to soften though (gotta hit the gym again)

i never ate a lot, my only problem was sitting there so my eating habits never changed but i recently did stop drinking diet soft-drinks (i swear i was addicted) and now i just drink water or juice in place of carbonated drinks

my god-son is the same way. 300 pounds. 20 years old, never moves, sits in his damn room all day playing XBox and watching Blu Rays. Literaly does nothing else, besides go to school part time. Part of me wants to blame his parents for not instilling any kind of discipline in him, but at his age, something has got to click in his mind. I can't fault his parents completely. He's got to WANT to change. If he wanted to, he could get up and walk around the block an hour a day. Or jog. Just do something. Drinking soda and eating junk food is one sure way to kill yourself early. His mother is one of those super religious nuts, who one day admitted to me that nothing in this world matters because she's going to die and be with Jesus or some such fantastical shit anyways, so why take care of herself? Apparantly, that negative attitude has rubbed off on her son, and now they're both a couple of overweight sloths with no motivaton to live healthier lives. It really disgusts me.
