Just mean I think it will be a sub service that prevails (Spotify style). It may take a while but I can see movies losing major money over the next decade. It will be q case of grab what you can industry wise.

There will always be a market for owning a copy of a movie.

At the moment that's Netflix and Amazon, Hulu etc..

You see Steedeel only sees things from his prospective in the UK, which is very Skewed from the rest of us. They don't have any UV Storefronts like Vudu, and Digital Streaming is probably very limited. So of course he is going to have a very negative attitude on the Streaming Industry.

It's not just the U.K mate.

This one, I can explain. Vudu on iOS is SD-only, while iTunes can do HD on iOS. So the Vudu files being downloaded are smaller than the iTunes files, assuming the iTunes files in question are HD.

Yes, I love D2D too. I used it for the first time last month, and now I've done it three times and added lots more movies to my Vudu account, including several of my DVDs, so those ones are upgrades to HD. Pretty great.

It would be if we're talking about someone who wants to go digital, instead of someone simply redeeming the codes that are included with their Blu-rays. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do very many Blu-rays even come with iTunes codes in the UK? I visited the UK for a couple weeks and perused a video store a few times, noticing that movies looked like they all said UV on the front, instead of Digital HD. That could make it more tedious for folks in the UK to go with iTunes, since they're starting over from scratch.

Those aren't comfortable services. I'm sure many Netflix subscribers also use iTunes.

Are you asking us to weigh in on whether you should sell your steelbooks? Personally, I wouldn't, unless you also have the standard versions too on Blu-ray. As much as I like digital, I think Steedeel is wise to advise people not to put all our eggs in one basket. Then again, I guess he's putting all his eggs in Blu-ray at the moment. Take all our advice with a grain of salt, apparently.

I think you're right, its all UV codes here and I doubt many people over here even use those (dont ask what im basing that on)

But from what ive seen around Christmas, physical media seems to be thriving in some places here, CDs, Blurays and DVDs.

I'm debating getting out of the Steelbook game entirely and just buying the regular versions when I decide I want to have them on disc again.

If you're still going to buy discs isnt it better to buy steelbooks that look better on your shelves?

Honestly,

I'm kind of over packaging. I really would just rather watch the movie than care what it the case looks like.

Goddamn it go digital then

jk, both have their advantages/disadvantages, there've been some good discussions regarding each in this thread...and some not-so-good discussions (im looking at you SteeDeel)

Elaborate?

Despite my blunt talking, I thought I was being fair with my comments? Don't think I have upset one personally, no?

Not gone away, but fading like iTunes music downloads. Losing out to streaming.

iTunes rules the roost over here. Followed by Sky store (which also comes with a DVD as part of the deal) and then Amazon I think. From what I understand (true in the States as well as here) the average UV account has just 5 movies on it. It's not making the impact the studios hoped and over here, nobody can be arsed to put out a decent storefront.

It'll be much sooner. Historically the top available Internet access bandwidth has increased about 50% per year since the 1990s. Extrapolating this trend, Internet bandwidth in 10 years will be about 50-60 times faster than today. Given that even today 100Mbps (which is already comparable to the maximum bitrate of UHD Blu-ray) is not uncommon, UHD Blu-ray will look like a low-bandwidth application in 10 years, similarly as DVD-quality SD streaming does today.
