Putting the stones back closed off dark timelines to exist aka one's where the stones had been stolen. But they still exist as alternate timelines since originally the stones were never stolen.
Now now. Some works of fiction choose alternate timelines others go for the changing the timeline approach. They are both as valid as each other for the purposes of storytelling. The MCU obviously has alternative timelines, others such as BTTF have their own rules. It’s not about any one approach being the one and only, and the rest then have to be BS. As long as whatever one approach a movie/tv show uses is consistent with its own internal logic then it’s all good.

Think about your last paragraph there. In the MCU going back creates a new timeline. Always. The movie’s own internal logic dictates that when Steve goes back to return the stones, that in itself creates new timelines. Creating new timelines in which the stone were returned, but that still leaves the others in which they weren't returned.

They say that in the context of their reality and the rules that exist in the MCU. Ive edited / added some text to my post.

How did old Cap get back to the original timeline if he stayed in an alternate timeline to live with Peggy?

I only saw Endgame when it first came out, and I’m not the biggest MCU/comic book nerd, so don’t shout at me if this is a stupid question. Honestly, I’d prefer if Endgame didn’t introduce time travel and alternate realities at all. It’s all bound to get messy, and it’s a little too gimmicky for my taste.

Honestly, best to not look too much under the hood and take it on face value.

The time travel in Endgame makes absolutely zero sense.

I've just learned to live with it.

The quantum suits they wore in the movie to get back.

Why wasn't Cap wearing one on the bench or arrived on the machine platform? Because he came back earlier in the day and didn't make himself known until his old self left.

Nail on the head. The movie even says if you go back to the future, you will always end up back in your same timeline because the new one you’ve created in the past is not your present and you can’t change your own past.

It doesn’t sound too logical, but it’s best not to think of these as timelines, but dimensions. If you were hopping dimensions, you’d want to eventually end back in your own or it would cause issues, which is likely the thing multiverse of madness will dive into. If multiple realities become unstable, they will need to be collapsed to stabilize everything.

So that people won't use BTTF time travel rules. I think the writers said that was the reason for this dialogue.

Well, there’s that, and the fact that Back to the Future 2 breaks the series own time travel rules. They say in the first changing the past will change the future you travel to and Doc literally pulls Marty and Jennifer from the present to travel to the future. If he did that, none of them would exist in that future having been missing for 30 years.

And Biff changed the past yet came back to his own present to return the Delorean.
Later in the film, Doc says they can't go back to the future to stop Biff from stealing it because it'll be the new alternate timeline.
They didn't follow their own rules in the same film!

The only movie/property that does time travel elegantly is Harry Potter 3. Every place, it is a proper cluster****.

I disagree, pretty much any film that has a closed time loop makes sense. Meaning, any film where those traveling back in time have technically already happened and therefore no changes can actually be made. Stuff like Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, the first Terminator (the sequels ruined this logic), or 12 Monkeys. And yeah, Harry Potter 3 did that too, albeit after these.

Timecrimes is my favorite time travel movie. but it's all just sci-fi fantasy.

I love this kind of stuff. This is one of the most interesting videos I've seen on the speed of light and time travel.

No episode 9 speculation, talking about everything else. There goes the neighborhood.

So, maybe Hayward as a big baddie is a head-fake, or it's been there all along.

Rister's Ignorance of Comics On Display - 4/28/21
The problem here is Hayward (human or Skrull) has no perspective to what is going on inside. They don't know about Agatha, only think Wanda is the whole problem. The Kids and Monica are not even factored in yet. Considering how many ways Haywards solution won't work out, the story leads to some kind of Wanda + Vision ending, where Wanda and Agatha continue and some semblance of Vision returns if I had to guess.

This is the first thing with Atmos I have watched since upgrading. Had a few cool effects, the opening in the forest for one.

I remember there was a version of the Hulk floating around where he wasn't wearing any pants it was so early, so we'll assume that it's a version of Malcom where Dewey hasn't been born ... Malcom at the End?
