Big help, thank you. I thought that if I were to take the manual approach I couldn't blend settings between the manual setup and the audyssey setup, just assumed that it was either or.

Thank you!

Changing the speaker size and crossovers does not negate the Audyssey calibration. It has been a standard practice since Audyssey started. If the bass is still not where it should be (in phase with the front speakers, where it seems like the bass is coming from the front speakers) then you can add the subwoofer delay (distance) in the manual speaker setup settings. I usually have to add distance when I used to calibrate system for a living. Find a bass heavy song to listen to, pause the song, change the distance for the subwoofer. Let's say the sub setting is 9.5 feet after Audyssey. Change it to 10.5 feet and then listen to the song again. See if it gets better. Keep adding a foot till the bass sounds like its coming from the front speakers.

The other more precise way to dial in the phase requires a calibrated microphone and a free software called REW, or a SPL meter and test ones.

Audyssey is getting better on the newer AVRs. I just upgraded to a Denon X3800H and didn't have to do as much tweaking. And you can see in my signature I use 4 subwoofers in my system.

Here's a question for you... in the speakers/manual setup>Bass section - should I set subwoofer mode to LFE and then the LPF for LFE is set @ 120hz - should I change that at all and set it less than 120hz? Should be noted that I have all my speakers set to small and my front/center speaker crossover set to 80hz and all other speakers set to 120 hz.

I would leave the LPF @ 120Hz for now and try increasing the subwoofers distances first. Take a picture of your current subwoofers distances so you have a reference of where Audyssey set them to. Tomorrow I'll send you a PM to a link on another forum that has newer Audyssey recommendations

@Grinningcat_o3
Could you tell me what your current subwoofers trim setting are in the Denon?
Go to SETUP >> AUDIO >> Subwoofer Level Adjust.
Don't make any adjustments just yet but tell me what the trim levels currently are. For example: Sub 1 is at -6 and Sub 2 is at -7. If they are at -12 then there is more tweaking to do to get your bass/LFE in the right place.

Those are pretty good trim levels. Are you now getting a better bass response?

If you like to learn more about setting up subs, I have sent you a PM with a link to another forum.

Feeling pretty good with the bass right now. I also raised the bass volume which I was leaving it at the audyssey calibrated levels but that article mentioned raising volume is warranted, and that has also helped a bunch.

Thx for the article and all your help, much appreciated.

Happy to hear things are sounding better.

Lets see how well it's working for you. Try this song out.

Sounds pretty good, the bass is very punchy, what's your reference track to get a good feel for real deep bass?

My Denon 4700H seems to have unpaired from the Panasonic 4k player due to the internet going off for 10 minutes this afternoon.

I have tried re pairing via bluetooth, but no go, it says no network.

Is anyone here able to advise?

my 6700 gets here tomorrow! Trying to decide if I want to hook it up right away or wait to switch around this TV stand. I will probably do the smart thing and wait.

Does "Dolby Surround" add the subwoofer with mono sources like the mode called "Stereo" does? The manual doesn't say. I always used "Stereo" with mono sources because I don't like how "Dolby Surround" collapses it to the center, but I recently removed the center speaker ("downgraded" from 5.1.2 to 4.1), so if I can stay in "Dolby Surround" almost all the time...

"Stereo: This mode plays 2-channel stereo audio with no additional surround sound processing. Sound is output from the front left and right speakers, and subwoofer if connected."

Denon's AVR-X3800H 9.4 Channel receiver at the sale price of $1,359.00 all in and delivered Nationwide is a great value for this premium high performance A/V receiver.

It has 11.4 Channel of audio decoders built-in so if your speaker system has more than 9 channels you can add a 2-channel power amplifier to the pre-outputs to accommodate up to 11.4 Channels of Dolby Atmos/DTS:X audio.
