Default The Latest For Me:

Just did another 3D marathon and will now put my treasured (and only) 3D TV away for a while.

"Yogi Bear" --- Kind of stupid and silly, but still an enjoyable romp.

"Dr. Strange" --- When will I learn that the Marvel World is just not my thing? Did enjoy Cumberbatch, though.

"Mortal Engines" --- Been waiting for this for over a year and a half, and while it could have been better in the plot, narrative, and character development, it still knocked me out!

"Ready Player One" --- Mixed feelings. Visually stunning, but it went too fast for me, and the story line just couldn't bring me in.

"Solo" --- Not another "great" Star Wars movie, but still enjoyable.

Also rewatched "Jivaro", "POTC: On Stranger Tides", and "Terminator Genisys"

Now to go back to my flat TV 'till at least November.

I enjoyed the movie. It was fairly standard "good guy has to rescue his family" fare, but well done. The 3D was medium and not strong. It did add to the enjoyment and immersion but not in a big way. If you like this sort of film, I think you will find Skyscraper to be worth a watch.

One twist that you don't see in this type of movie
[Show spoiler]is that the main character was handicapped in that one leg was amputated below the knee and he wore a prosthetic with a shoe on it. This did play something of a role in the events of the film, but not in any sort of goofy emotional appeal way. It simply was an unavoidable part of things.
I finally watched my copy because of your review and I agree with everything you wrote. Too bad the 3D wasn't stronger, should've looked great. Anytime he was outside the building (on the "ledge" looking down) it looked pretty good though.

I thought it was an interesting choice that
[Show spoiler] he basically gives up at the end and his wife has to save him. Don't see that much with action heroes

I agree. They made some unusual choices that set the film apart from other films in this genre. Good movie.

Last night, I got around to watching my copy of MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN. I liked it. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it was interesting and engaging and offered things I had not seen before, which made it fun. There was some fairly strong 3D in places.

Though number two is already out, finally got around to watching The Angry Birds.

Beautiful 3D and gorgeous color and detail. A real treat to watch.

For the movie itself, was finding it very boring at first with the jokes not being so clever. However, it started growing on me and by the end I was really liking it.

Found a used copy of Coraline for $6cnd. Not a big fan of the movie, but maybe the 3D will change that (maybe get a little high too)

Hi Bob,

Give the 3D a chance. If memory serves me right, the depth is mild in her house but suddenly expands with the change in locations.

Default The Mummy (2017)

Just watched this. I thought it was an okay movie with decent 3D. Not much in the way of pop-outs. I ranked it in my pop-out thread. I counted 8.

Years ago when I first watched this I thought the 3d was terrible (house) and then when it really kicked in it looked pretty good so you are right Joe. Give it a few minutes or so and it will look good.

I watched it recently with the family, it's very good as animated movies go.

The scene with the mountain 'lake' had us howling with laughter...

I've had this sitting on the shelf for years, do I need to watch the first movie first?

Just purchased the Russian cartoon remake of kin dza dza after finding out it did include English subtitles. Am not familiar with the story but understand the original version is considered a classic in Russia and parts of Europe.

Joe, I have the 3D Blu Ray remake and the original on regular DVD. I really like the animation / drawing style, kind of reminds me of Fantastic Planet. I think you'll be happy. It's mostly depth from what I can remember, but the layers of the cartoons are very separated, it's not an auto conversion or anything like that. The story and drawing style are worth it alone IMO

I received my copy of "Shazam" 3D from the UK yesterday and watched much of it last night. The 3D is fine and the picture is a hoot. (Like all "superhero" films it's a bit too long though.) The 3D definitely adds to the presentation.
I finally tried to watch "Avengers: Infinity" on Netflix in 2D earlier this week and got through only 45 minutes. Between the pathetic script and the absence of 3D it was a real slog. I'll never watch one of these films in 2D again if 3D is available.

Hi pixote,

Hey buddy, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with me. And also confirming what I read about concerning the 3D.

Should get it Monday or Tuesday. Got a bargain with the price reduced to $10 on eBay plus small shipping charge.

I found this cheap somewhere and figured why not, even though I didn't like the movie itself. It's apparently a Hong Kong release not listed on the site and came with a lenticular slip cover.
