Did you seek out that "lost" chapter? I'm staying away from it. I like the story as it is.

God, please no QT on CC. So many other titles/artists in need. QT gets full reign over where he is. Let CC help others get the treatment they deserve.

RE: Picnic at Hanging Rock - I'm pretty sure I've fallen out of love with it.

I'm also pretty sure it has to do with knowledge of the secret ending ruining the entire thing for me.

There's a criterion edition of EVERY Wes Anderson movie after the studio releases their own blu-ray. We can handle one Tarantino film at least.

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is a prime candidate for CC and definitely "deserves" that kinda treatment. It's Tarantino's opus, never been released on home video, has a potential treasure trove of supplements that could be offered, and interest from CC might motivate QT to finally release the damn thing.

CC isn't about just catering to the niche.

Eh, I'm of the opinion that their attention should be catered more towards films that actually need the treatment (in the Collection or not) than touch a film that has a perfectly fine blu release. I adore The Tree of Life more than almost any film, but I could do without it getting the treatment for the time being, extended cut and all. Just give me some Hou, Koreeda, Denis, Tsai, Akerman, Ozu, etc.

Criterion has released Lady Snowblood, Lone Wolf and Cub, and Zatoichi in recent years. Kill Bill would definitely not be out of place in the collection. You have to also consider that it would sell like hotcakes if Criterion released it, which would no doubt help them to fund other more niche releases later on. I'm personally all for Criterion putting out the occasional popular or mainstream title, even if it's a re-release of a title on BD, since it helps pay for other stuff. Twilight Time has done very much the same thing by releasing some of the horror titles they did ,even if it didn't fit with the demographic they were trying to cater to originally. With that said, I don't see Kill Bill: The WBA becoming a CC title, nor any other QT film in the foreseeable future.

Criterion should just, you know, release films (within limits) that wouldn't typically get a release.

Criterion should just do what they've always done and continue to release definitive versions of obscure stuff, mainstream stuff and everything in between. Everyone's happy. Criterion fans really need to stop trying to pigeonhole the brand as something it's not.

As someone that owns CC's Beastie Boys Anthology, Eating Raoul and Picnic at Hanging Rock, it's a little presumptuous of you to imply that I'm implying CC should release certain types of titles only.

Second, QT as I've mentioned before, can get whatever treatment he want from his label. The only difference if CC released it would be the thickness of the blu ray case and the fact that they wasted their time on his release rather than something they could better uncover for audiences.

Third, I'm annoyed with them doing the same for Wes Anderson for the same reasons.

Fourth, IMO The Kill Bills are the worst of his output. And there's a plethora of Golden era Hong Kong flicks, not to mention Etsuko Shihomi or Sonny Chiba flicks that're in better need of a blu ray release.

Tarantino (and Anderson) are fine. Their fans will get their fill. They don't need CC.

As MifuneFan pointed out, it's less about the films needing CC than it is about CC needing the films. For every popular huge selling title they release, I'm sure there is one or more obscure title they can now take a chance on restoring and releasing.

Don't worry.

Y'all know? What happened last time somebody told Beckeroo what to do?!

... We got Jellyfish Eyes!!

... Personally, I don't care what they release as long as it's interesting.

I understand the need and the logic. However, I don't think they took this motto in the DVD days, no?

Of course, the Blu-rays and new scans are much more costly.

Are you asking about the days when they released Armageddon, Robocop, and The Rock?

I think Django cares about its protagonist a lot more than any earlier film of his apart from Jackie Brown, and deals with violence (well, that against the slaves and not the slave owners) in a much more serious manner than any of his earlier films as well. I think the general consensus on both Inglorious and Django is that they showed MATURITY compared to the earlier ones (well, besides Jackie Brown).

EDIT: I also find this weird in a discussion about how good True Romance is, as that movie is basically adolescent wish-fulfillment with some very tasteless violence (some of the worst offense just due to how Tony Scott shot things - like, oh, here's a woman having the piss beaten out of her, but I have to make the images look awesome, so I better make sure her cleavage still looks amazing!!!). I would be curious to see what the Tarantino version of the same film would have looked like. Surely not as good, but having it without that hyper-studio Tony Scott sheen would have been a huge difference. Seems like that poster doesn't like it either, though. ONLY liking Jackie Brown is definitely a sentiment I can appreciate. There's really nothing else in his filmography to compare to the treatment of Jackie and Robert Forster's character. It's downright wistful!
I still haven't seen True Romance yet. I should get around to it.

The film critic Kim Morgan recently wrote a nice appreciation for True Romance that got me wanting to bump the film up on my "to see" pile.

http://thenewbev.com/blog/2017/01/true-romance/

I'm a big fan of Jackie Brown like many in here because it actually feels like something written by and for adults. A lot of QT's films, as well made as they are, have a tendency to fall into the trap of becoming adolescent film geek masturbation. And while I have no problem with adolescent point of views as a rule, I think sometimes any sense of nuance flies out the window when QT falls too much in love with his own shit.

I am aware that they released those films and more, like Silence of the Lambs.

However, the amount of "big" releases were minimal compared to now. Also, exactly just how much of a hot seller were these films?

Day 6 of the Quentin Tarantino discussion.

http://www.vulture.com/2015/08/how-q...t-follows.html

I think more than anything, QT was just having fun w/ this.. and he said that it was a movie he liked, so there's that.

anyway, I thought it was interesting. and I think It Follows is better than anything QT has ever done that isn't named Pulp Fiction.
