Someone asked Criterion on their face book page months back about a Criterion release and they responded that they would be releasing it.

Two genre gems, one I've had on preorder since it first showed up on Amazon. And it's been, what, almost a year since the Cronos announcement.

Very happy here! Just what my budget needs after the Black Friday CC sales.

I agree on all points. It seems unlikely. However, Criterion did mention they were working towards it a few months ago on their Facebook page.

So, you're going to wait until the July 2011 Barnes & Noble sale to pick up the December titles... if B&N is even still around? Or, are you just referring to any sale that might come along?

...saw Videodrome years and years ago...didn't like it, but I think I was too young to appreciate it. That's happened to a lot of films I saw when I was younger. One I remember was Blade Runner...love it now, but I didn't back then.

Cronos...well, I love del Toro's work, and I probably will love this too!

You keep posting this everywhere but to be blunt I'm not really going to believe it until you can link to it or until Criterion announces it.

Anyways, I'm definitely getting both Cronos and Videodrome.

Can we have The Devil's Backbone next?

After looking back now on both 2010 and 2009, I must say that I like 2009 a little better.

Don't get me wrong, 2010 was awesome if you like re-releases of movies to blu that can be found already, but 2009 was great in terms of getting movies that wasn't in the U.S. yet. Just looking at the "NEW" releases and not blu upgrades, this year for me Dillinger is Dead and the von Sternberg silents was the only big things (Vivre sa vie could be found on dvd, as well as half of the BBS set, Night of the Hunter, etc.).

Not counting blu upgrades, 2009 was full of Chantal Akerman, Oshima, Buñuel, Malle, Polanski, Wenders, Costa-Gavras, Rossellini, Imamura, got 2 lesser known New Wave Godards (Made in U.S.A & 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her), The Human Condition, Last Year at Marienbad, The Friends of Eddie Coyle, and more.

I like Godard a lot but I think Made in the USA is not one of his stronger pictures.

I like it alot, but either way (if you like it or not), you can't say it wasn't new to you, which is why I would take Made in U.S.A and 2 or 3 Things type releases anyday, and the reason why Criterion is so appealing to me is getting "new to the U.S. video format" stuff from world cinema that I can't see anywhere else.

The Game would be a nice release from them, but I think Universal would have to license it out still. I don't remember reading anywhere that CC got the rights to it, so honestly until I see a link of them owning the rights, its wishful thinking. Universal would be foolish to license this out, as it has 2 Hollywood stars in it with great catalog sales, but you never know....

Universal owns it thru I believe Polygram films, still Universal let's Criterion distribute many films. As much as I love The Game, I doubt it is huge money maker. I think Universal and Criterion would both benefit from letting Criterion release The Game ESP since Criterion has many bonus materials that were use for their Laserdisc release. (Let the Spartacus jokes begin)
