I've been comparing these on my tv via ps3 this entire time. That one predator pic is WAY lighter. Hell, I've even been posting from my ps3.

I was thinking that but I may pick it up opening day since I plan on seeing Predators. If you're going to see Predators and there is $10 movie money for it then you're really only paying like $10 for the new blu.

I had a reward certificate I had to use. So it was only $10 and change from Best Buy.

So with the Movie Money to see Predators, I think I'm getting a decent deal.

I agree. If you're going to pay for an overly processed POS remaster then you might as well do it for less money.

Outside of the one shot of Arnold, I don't think it looks like a POS at all.

Then you need to leave your glasses/contacts on for when you look at the rest of the shots.

You said "clearly" the film was shot blurry and smeary... right? Wrong. Ah man, the misinformation on this board is hilarious.
Some artifacting? A LOT. Take a look at some of the original screenshots and zoom in on them. The grain is very digital and blocky as the the low bit MPEG-2 evidently could not handle it very well. That shot of Weathers contained real film grain that was defined despite the mustache blurring. There are also facial markings on Weathers' face Mr. internet film-maker genius-expert that you aren't seeing.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. That shot now looks like it was shot with a soft focus lens or a diffusion filter or something. It looked nothing like that in the original.

The rest of the comparison shots look as good or better...

Are you looking at them or covering your eyes and singing the "LOLZ NO GRAIN" song to yourself?

Quite how anyone can like an over processed image is beyond me. There are experts in the field telling you just how bad it is and still people are adamant that it's better.

I'm not defending the original release but it is certainly closer to the look of the film than this new release.

The whole point of what we're discussing is that it no longer looks like it was shot on film and certainly isn't how it is supposed to look.

It's pretty obvious that this is a new encode but the image has been boosted using brightness/contrast, scrubbed to within an inch of its life with DNR and had a fine layer of digital grain added.

What experts? We don't even have any real reviews yet.

Even still, there is such a thing called an opinion.

I think some of the new pics look better... Sue me.

And digital grain doesn't look like that.
