Half the movie is great, the other half is a snooze fest. Enjoyed the stuff with the Osage characters, but the other half with the old white men just drags on and on. Leonardo plays a horrible human being for 3.5 hours.

That final hour was a struggle to get through.
Everyone is free to dislike real cinema, but don't be surprised when others like it.

Sight and Sound, The Film Stage, and the RogerEbert.com site all named this Best Picture.

It topped Sight and Sound and The Film Stage's Top 50 Films of the Year, and Ebertsite's Top 10 Films of the Year. Number One on all of them.

The Independent (UK) paper names "Killers of the Flower Moon", 'Best Picture of the Year',

and the Boston Online Film Critics' Association Names it 'Best Picture' and 'Best Actress', and it tops their Top Ten Films List.

My money is still on OPPENHEIMER for Best Picture.

I dont think Academy is splitting this year.

Best Picture, Best Director is locked this year for Nolan.

KOTFMs undoing at the oscars will be due to Leo aint stepping up to the plate in 2nd half.

I think younger scorsese and younger deniro would've held Leo accountable in 2nd half.

The trailer and synopsis didn't make this film extremely appealing to me but i just watched it last night and... wow! I was blown away. Amazing piece of cinema! I really think it's the best film of the year!

It was the exact opposite of my disappointment with Oppenheimer which i think is a just a bit above average biopic. The only great thing about it is Cillian Murphy 's performance.

As a MASSIVE Scorsese fan, this was a big letdown for me. I was bored out of my mind. Some nice performances here and there, and the signature Scorsese camera moves are there, but it just doesn't really elevate story- wise like all of his other films. I loved The Irishman, which is even longer. Glad others enjoyed it though.

I enjoyed it immensely. I've seen it three times, and can effortlessly watch it again when my physical copy comes in from Italy in late January/early February. Never bored for a second. It's long, but goes along at a very brisk clip to me.

Good you gave it a shot, though.

Is the Italian 4K likely to have English subtitles for the Osage language scenes? The film is easily my favourite of 2023, but I'd prefer to own a physical release I can understand the whole of.

Nope, only Italian.

Actually, the English soundtrack will likely have forced subs in English for the Osage scenes.

The same label's "CODA" release only specifies Italian subs on the package. But when you watch the disc with the English soundtrack selected, the sign language scenes all have forced English subs. The package doesn't say that.

Anyway, I'll be the guinea pig, and when I get my copy in, I'll let everyone know the final verdict.

CODA had English SDH subtitles along with the forced ones tho, and those are listed on the back.

I'd imagine with Killers they only have license to the Italian version of the movie, otherwise there's no reason they wouldn't include English subtitles for the full feature to take advantage of international buyers.

Ah, you may be right. I never noticed that on the "CODA" case. I'll still let everyone know once mine comes in, likely in early February.

I have to say that I think it’s crazy the buzz for DiCaprio has seemingly died down since the film’s general release. It’s much more subdued compared to how it was coming out of Cannes. I’ve been reading some Oscar predictions that say he’s currently ‘on the bubble’. How the hell is he not one of the front runners? He plays a morally weak character who makes baffling/despicable decisions and DiCaprio makes it so compelling to watch for 3+ hours. And it’s challenging for a Hollywood star of his calibre to disappear into a role and transform themselves the way DiCaprio does here. It’s one of the more interesting roles and great performances of a lead actor in awhile.

Have people just become too accustomed to DiCaprio delivering great performances that it’s not such a big deal anymore? And I know the consensus is that Lily Gladstone is the heart of the film and people don’t want her to be overshadowed by DiCaprio, but he should still be getting his share of the accolades for this. All 3 of the main acting performances in this should be considered frontrunners for their respective categories.

Sadly, the buzz in general for this film has died down since its general release. Maybe Gladstone has the best shot of winning a major award or two from this. Otherwise, I think it's sadly going to be overlooked this year. Then, ten years from now, people will say they can't believe this film was so snubbed at the time. Even "Poor Things" is losing some of its buzz, now, too, now that it's in general release.

People seemed determined to gather round an outrageously overrated and overhyped certain movie that is honestly just slightly above average.

That's kind of always been the Academy and general audiences, too, anyway, though. Safe, mediocre, middle-of-the-road, completely average fare.

Oh well....

It’ll be wild if DiCaprio doesn’t even get nominated though, which is what these Awards pundits seem to be suggesting by saying he’s ‘on the bubble’. It’s baffling that he wouldn’t be considered in the top 3-4. I hope there’s no truth to that.

I totally understand the praise for Cillian Murphy and wouldn’t be upset if he won. Oppenheimer relies so much on his close-ups and he completely carries the film with his magnetic screen presence. However, the top male lead performance is between DiCaprio and Paul Giamatti for me. I think Murphy’s performance is more one-note and less interesting compared to theirs.

Lily Gladstone overshadowed his buzz. Even De Niro didn't get the recognition he deserved but it seems it became a normal day at the office for both.

I wouldn't be mad though, i think Giamatti or Cillian should be given a chance to win this year.
