I love great westerns. It is a genre that lends itself easily to adaptation, both small scale stories and grand epics, where characters interact in a raw angry world on the verge of being tamed. So many moving and powerful stories, and a lot of middlin' stuff too, but I will give them all a chance. Still many top shelf westerns out there remaining to be released.

It is for these same reasons that in the past few years I have also gravitated to samurai films, a recent discovery that I am surprised took me so long to get around to drinking the saki.
I was about to recommend The Scalphunters but I see you already own it .

Thanks, amigo. Scalphunters is also a good one. Burt Lancaster has become my favorite actor since rediscovering him the past two years.

The KLSC western I am on the fence about getting is Altman's Buffalo Bill and the Indians. I almost blind bought it this past week with the DD sale, but decided to pass for now. I need to think about that one. Altman is hit or miss for me and it is probably safer to rent that one if available for streaming.....although I don't know when that will be since I have so many blu-rays to watch.

I think I'll pass on this one. Which is good, because the wallet is getting light.

This is great news. Harry in Your Pocket is a fun little movie and James Coburn and Walter Pidgeon give good performances as the master pickpocket and his aging mentor. Looking forward to seeing this one.

James Coburn means an automatic purchase from me. I almost bought this DVD just the other day. Glad I held off.

I'm still alive I promise! Trying to get some other work done before the NYC blizzard destroys us all.

But yes, let's do this officially.

Coming in June, only on Blu-ray:

HARRY IN YOUR POCKET (1973)

Starring James Coburn, Walter Pidgeon, Michael Sarrazin and Trish Van Devere.

Directed by Bruce Geller

this is so funny... just a couple days ago I was reminded about this film and thought it would be a great choice for a possible KINO release.... now here it is!

You should check out Mother Night - he's remarkable in that, but when it came out the film quickly vanished without anybody ever noticing it. Director Keith Gordon couldn't get Nolte's agent to send him the script (apparently because the agent knew it was the kind of film he'd want to make even though it was no good for his career), so he managed to get a supporting role in I Love Trouble (the kind of film Nolte's agent thought he should be making) so he could meet him and give him the script.

Default Kino Titles Don't Get Along w/ my PS3

Just wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced this problem.

In the past couple of weeks I've watched two Kino blu-rays: The First Power and The Missouri Breaks.

Both of them have caused my system to freeze up upon being inserted -- black screen, nothing happening, can eject disc but can't power down except by unplugging the unit.

Now, this doesn't happen every time (I've been able to watch both movies), but sometimes, and so far only with these two discs.

Anyone else? Is it just that my PS3 is dying a slow death? (Come to think of it, I seem to recall it happened with a disc of Deadwood as well a few days ago. But it definitely happened twice to TFP and once to MB in a very short window while other discs played fine.)

A July announcement just posted on Facebook (I won't ruin it). But considering it's only January and we're onto July now, how far down the calender will you be announcing? Or are we just on a clear line til the end of the deal?

You don't need a Facebook account to view Kino's page. Anyway, the movie that was announced: Life Stinks (1991), directed by Mel Brooks.
