It's perhaps even truer with videogames, in the sense that the bulk of videogame preservation and accessibility really is all fan-effort, it has to be! Otherwise, most old games would have disappeared. Preserving games is a great pain because while you just share a film on a digital video format that any platform will play, a videogame is a piece of software designed only for one piece of hardware. Years and years of hard work are necessary to study and understand a videogame console to program emulation software. |

Members here: When is this going to be on 4K?
Members here: What no Dolby Vision or Atmos? Members here: The Laserdisc/VHS/Video CD with lossy Dolby Digital audio or analog Stereo Surround is superior. There is audiophile or videophile or whatever then there is just being annoying with “elitest” comments. Cameron could have just ignored this film’s existence like True Lies or The Abyss. But he signed off on a Dolby Vision master, a Dolby Atmos track, and is including new extras. He even got the actress he openly mocked to come back and participate. |

With all these other European countries announcing 4k releases, where is the UK one? And Amazon seems to have blocked UK addresses from pre-ordering any of the other countries' releases so I can't even order an import! At least it isn't limited so should be available after release.

Although it's mostly used in North America and Australia nowadays, "soccer" was a term invented by the English (who, you know, also invented the sport) as a shorthand for Association Football to distinguish it from other forms of football such as, hey, rugby football. |

edit: I'm looking at DVD vs Bluray comparisons on caps-a-holic and I can see the teal you are talking about. I don't see the problem because the new grade looks more natural, the DVD grade looks too cold. I felt the same way about The Abyss DVD vs HD streaming version that has the so-called "teal" regrade that also looks more realistic and natural compared the ultra-cold DVD grade. 2) Grain scrubbing doesn't matter if the fine detail is still there. The Bluray is incredibly well detailed and there's only one shot in the entire movie that sticks out as having a waxy look to it. I could write an entire article about why I think it's stupid to complain about a lack of grain when all the fine detail you could want is clearly in the image. 3) Is revisionism even a problem if it's used to fix continuity and film-making errors? Removing lighting equipment from a shot is very different from adding entirely new sequences and CGI characters like what George Lucas did for the original trilogy special editions. (That is revisionism that I can't stand and won't support, but these Titanic changes all make sense and don't bother me) Last edited by Pocketkid2; 11-08-2023 at 08:48 PM. |

This has not been my experience at all. In many cases, some of the members of these groups might not be as active as others. As long as you ask nicely, it just sometimes just requires a little patience.

Now we have new benchmarks for "stellar", yet modern sound mixes are often way short of the mark due to lack of subtlety. So great, we had it on 1080p and 3D even previously, yet the sound mix was perhaps a step back in terms of proper balancing. Now we'll have it in 4k, but will the audio be properly balanced, or will the laserdisc beat it in that department? Pretty embarrassing that a laserdisc can beat a UHD at audio. The laserdisc had the original mix and sounded more balanced, even though today's audio codecs are higher quality and lossless. |
